County Commissioner's Note by Commissioner Jeff Whitmire The morning before we sealcoat a road, we have to order a tanker truck so asphalt oil with a value of $9,000. Rain and asphalt oil are not friends. If the roads we have planned to work on are wet, we simply cannot do the work. If it rains, I am the faced with what to do with $9000 worth of oil I cannot store until the next day. If the weather forecast is looking at a good chance of widespread rain, we cancel the order and do other work.

This week has been a good example of how weather can slow down your seasonal plan. We have had a week where everyday has had a significant chance of rain, too high a chance to risk $9,000; and yet we have had minimal rain. We do use these days productively (pothole patching, mowing etc.), just not in the way we hope to this time of year. Hopefully we will get some much needed rain in the next few days and then get back to some dry weather.
