Head Coach Torrey Ognoskie consoles freshman starter David Crees after a rough outing vs. Gunter on Friday. photos by Michelle Carney Some things are just destined to not be in the cards. The Howe Bulldogs had a chance to blow the doors off of Whitesboro in the fourth inning with the bases loaded and no one out and shortstop Easton Ross at the plate. And at that very moment, the lights went out at the Howe ballpark and the thought of securing the last seed in the playoffs flickered with the last bulb dimming to darkness. The game was moved to Gunter, where they resumed play with the exact situation of having the bases loaded and no outs, however, Whitesboro changed pitchers and he was able to get out of the inning miraculously with no runs scored.

Whitesboro evened the score in the third and Howe pulled back ahead with a run in the third. After the game move to Gunter, Howe quickly lost all momentum. Whitesboro pulled ahead with two unearned runs in the top of the sixth, both due to Bulldog throwing errors. Howe was unable to push across any runs in the bottom of the sixth or 7seventh innings and Whitesboro, with the 5-4 win, clinched the final playoff spot.

Josh Griffin went the distance for the tough loss. Coach Torrey Ognoskie said he was very proud of Griffin's work and pitched well enough to win the game.

The 'Dogs closed out the season the following day with Gunter at home for senior day. Gunter was playing to clinch the district title and they came out swinging against freshman starterAnderson David Photo by Loretta Crees. He was unable to make it out of the third inning and gave up eight runs. Matt Griffin relieved and pitched the last 4 1/3 innings and gave up four runs, two being earned.

The Bulldogs jumped out early when Griffin Underwood and Quinton Harris hit back to back doubles in the first inning. Howe added another in the second when Easton Ross hit a sacrifice fly to score Triston Matthews.

Howe scored both their runs in the first inning against Reagan McDonald. Easton Ross tripled and scored on a passed ball. Brennan Ross walked and was brought in on a Caleb Ake ground ball.
