the other guy and say it's his fault It’s easy to say our government is not doing their job or we're being persecuted and hated when we stand up for what is right But God is calling believers in Him to be humble To be humble means to realize who and what you are in the eyes of an almighty, pure, perfect, holy God The reason we can stand in His presence is because Christ's blood covers us. When God looks at me, He sees Christ and the payment Christ made on the cross for my sins. It isn't my merits or anything I've done that is good. Because of the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross I have a relationship with God You and I, followers of Christ, must humble ourselves before God

“If My people, who are called by My Name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked way, then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land,” 2 Chronicles 7:14

This is a powerful verse with a promise that has been referenced to many times in our county’s troubles God gives us our part; “If My people " It’s easy to look at the decline in our country’s moral fiber and blame the turmoil, the crime, the terrorist attack, the economy and loss of jobs, and blame it on those that live a life contrary to what we see outlined in the Bible but this promise is clear. God is talking to "His people". He is talking to Christians that believe in Him and put their trust in Him. He was speaking to the Israelites and it didn't matter where they lived He knew that some lived free on their own land and some were held captive in Egypt The promise was with a provision of them doing their part and He would do His part

Once we humble ourselves, then God says we must pray and seek His face That means that I don't come to God with my agenda but I come to Him to know Him I like to speak to people face to face, especially if I’m speaking about important matters Our voice and words are only part of communication We don't see God as we see another human being but I think seeking His face means learning about Him and what He desires for us. It means getting to know Him and His heart. We can only do that when we spend time with Him in prayer and reading His words We can know Him intimately, and that is what He desires When we know Him intimately, then we know more about what He wants to do in our lives and hearts We can see clearly the things that keep us at a distance from Him that we need to change This is where "turning from their wicked ways" comes in It is too easy to look at the outward sins of murder, rape, theft, adultery, homosexuality, to name a few, and overlook the critical matters of the heart, like hate, jealousy, bitterness, unresolved anger, lust and un

-forgiveness These are the things that can keep us from "seeking His face" But if this promise is to be ours and we are to do what our part to get to the end result, and then we need to seek His face, thereby seeing those things in our life that are not pleasing to Him and are not profitable to us

Some people stop there and omit the next part of our responsibility. God said, "and turn from their wicked ways". That means we can no longer continue doing the things that displease Him. Those things keep us from having a healthy relationship with Him Disobedience keeps us in bondage to sin The things God tells us to turn away from are self-destructive as well as destructive to others

Once I have completed my part then I can look to Him to fulfill His part of the promise "then I will hear from Heaven and will forgive their sins and will heal their land " I want to see our land healed I want to see us be united, to love one another, to accept one another I want to see our land be the great nation we once were. Nowhere in this verse does God say if the unbelievers and un-godly people will humble themselves and pray that He will heal our land. It doesn’t take God by surprise what unbelievers think or do or fight for You and I are who He is talking to If I humble myself and pray and turn from my wicked ways then He will heal me and mine When you humble yourself and pray and turn from your sins He will heal you and yours When the person that sets by you at church humbles themselves and prays and turns from their sins then God will heal them and theirs That’s how our country will be changed One person at a time obeying God and taking Him at His word.
