“It is not good for the man to live alone. I need to make a suitable partner for him,” Genesis 2:18. It’s a false assumption that marriage will fill a void in us. Many enter marriage with the idea that their needs will be fulfilled by the other person. That will lead to frustration, conflict, unfulfilled expectations and bitterness. A solid Christ centered marriage will be committed to meeting their spouse’s needs. “A wife should put her husband first, as she does the Lord,” Ephesians 5:22. A woman vows to love, honor, and obey her husband, trusting in that man, respecting him and submitting to his leadership (1 Peter 3:1). “A husband should love his wife as much as Christ loves the church and gave His life for it. He made the church holly by the power of His word,” Ephesians 4:25. “In the same way, a husband should love his wife as much as he loves himself. A husband who loves his wife shows that he loves himself,” Ephesians 5:28. The only way you can love another person like that is to be fully

Monday, April 27, 2015 committed to obeying Christ. The Bible describes love as a commitment to do what is right before God. Emotions can fade and are hard to control but commitment is a choice. The world’s laws may change and define marriage differently but God’s definition will always remain the same. Marriage is a reflection of the nature of God. “If you are a husband, you should be thoughtful of your wife. Treat her with honor because she isn’t as strong as you are, and she shares with you in the gift of life. Then nothing will stand in your way of your prayers,” 1 Peter 3:7.

your husband as you would respect Jesus Himself. God gave you each other and He said it’s good. This kind of marriage speaks the love of Christ in a hopeless world. The love that Christ showed us while we were still sinners creates in us a desire to serve Him and a willingness to obey Him. Serve Him in the mission field of your marriage. If you don’t have a Bible please contact me at sfadebbie@yahoo.com and I will provide you one.

The relationship between husband and wife is a picture of the Trinity where there is equality of honor but distinction of function. Understanding and working out the truth is the basis for a successful marriage. A Christian marriage is intended to reveal something of God’s nature to a world that doesn’t understand sacrificial love. Let’s be honest; you will hurt each other because you are not yet perfected. You will have times you’re selfish, inconsiderate, irritable and not easy to get along with. Be quick to apologize and quick to forgive. “Don’t get so angry that you sin. Don’t go to bed angry and don’t give the devil a chance,” Ephesians 4:26. Being bitter against each other makes as much sense as hating your arm or leg. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother. He marries a woman, and the two become like one The Howe Area Chamber of person,” Genesis 2:24.
