CHAPTER14 SET -UP & ASSEMBLY BU960 Forage Boxes can be obtained in three forms: "preassembled", "piggybacked" or "knocked-down". In "knocked-down" (KD) form, components and subassemblies of the Forage Box are shipped in separate packages to be uncrated and assembled by the dealer. Most of the steps, outlined in this Set-up & Assembly chapter, will have to be used to make the Box assembly and attach the assembly onto a Running Gear. In "piggybacked" (PB) form several Forage Boxes are shipped from the Box Builder in varying stages ofpreassembly. In completing the assembly of these PB Boxes, depending on their particular state of preassembly, many of the steps in this chapter can be passed-over. In "preassembled" form, most of the steps outlined in this Set-up & Assembly chapter have already been performed by the Box Builder. Only the last few steps, as indicated, will have to be used to complete the Box assembly and attach the assembly onto a Running Gear. Procedures established in this set-up instruction are given in a step-by-step manner, with various parts of the process listed in such a way so as to, wherever possible, do the sequence without having to remove parts in order to make other component attachments. To simplify and speed-up the assembly process, it is recommended that at least two men work together to perform these procedures. Installation procedures for commonly requested options, such as a Third Beater and/ or a Metal Roof, are provided in sequence with the other steps. If the unit being set-up does NOT have either option, disregard the step and proceed to the next, as noted. It should be understood that, if a Third Beater or Roof is being installed in the future (anytime after initial setup), some assembled components will have to be removed and replaced.

Unless otherwise noted, the standard fastening procedure is to secure two parts with a HHCS, LW and HN. A part with a mounting slot should be secured with a PW against the slotted surface. HLN's are used to prevent two parts from separating but still to allow one part to move or rotate next to the other. When fastening wooden members, BE SURE to use a L-PW against the wooden member or members. Short-necked Carriage Bolts are installed through appropriate punched holes in Steel-sided Box Panels. Roof panels and related components are interconnected and attached with Large Flange Whiz HN (Hexagon Nuts).

NOTE: Some differences may exist, due to load size or Box Builder preferences, regarding the degree of preassembly and partial preassembly. In some cases also, the Box Builders may deliver and setup the units themselves. Partially preassembled Boxes may even have portions of a subassembly, such as the Box Side Front Stakes, Installed to gain additional stability for shipment. As necessary, determine which step of these Set-up & Assembly procedures Is Involved and follow appropriate directions to finish the step. Step 1:

Main Sill Extensions, Straps & Spacers Attachment (Figs. 14•1 a & 1 b)

Main Sill Extensions, Straps and Spacers installation involves attaching the components to the Main Sill before they are attached to the Platform. Main Sills for 14 and 16-ft Boxes are composed of two each 2 x IO's and MainSills for 18-ft Boxes are composed of three each 2 x lO's. Component installation involves combining common Right Side and Left Side Extensions with appropriate length Straps, Spacers and mounting hardware. Proceed as follows:

NOTE:

This procedure only applies to KD Box

assembly.

Right & Left Main Sill Extensions

Forage Box set-up and assembly should be performed inside an enclosed workshop which is equipped with the proper tools and an overhead hoist. Malrslll
