CHAPTER 3 CHECK LISTS

PRE-DELIVERY

After the Forage Box has been completely set-up, the following inspections should be made before delivering it to the Customer. Check off each item after prescribed action is taken.

Check that:

___ Forage Box has been correctly assembled and setup according to the information in this manual.

__ Forage Box has correct Operator's Manual.

__ All Grease Fittings have been properly lubricated and that Transmission is filled to the proper level. Sec Lubrication chapter of this manual for details.

__ All Guards, Shields and Decals are in place and securely attached.

__ All fasteners are properly secured.

__ All adjustments are made to comply with settings given in the Adjustment chapter of this manual.

__ Three extra H263 E and One extra H263C Coupler Bolts and Four extra Shear Bolts are supplied in the Holder.

__ Serial Number of this unit is recorded in spaces provided on this page and page 2.

Hook the Forage Box onto a 540 RPM tractor and test-run the unit while checking that proper operation is exhibited by all components.

__ Rotating PTO Guard turns freely.

__Safety Clutch Mechanism operates properly.

__ Drives, Rollers, Chains and Beaters are rotating smoothly and operating properly.

I acknowledge that pre-delivery service was performed on this unit as outlined above.

The following Check List is an important reminder of valuable information that MUST be passed on to the Customer at the time the unit is delivered. Check off each item as you explain it to the Customer.

___ Give the Customer his Operator's Manual. Instruct him to be sure to read and completely understand its contents BEFORE operating the unit.

__ Direct him on how to use the Index of this manual as quick page number locating guide.

__ Explain and review with him the SAFETY chapter of this manual.

___ Explain and review with him Controls & Safety Equipment chapter of this manual.

---Explain that regular lubrication is required for continued proper operation and long life. Review with him the Lubrication chapter of this manual.

___ Explain and review with him the Service chapter of this manual.

___ Explain and review with him both the Operation and the Preparing for Field Operation chapters of this manual.

---Demonstrate the Safety Clutch operation and activation. Also demonstrate the PTO Locking Device, Beater Clutch and Apron Speed Levers.

___ Advise the Customer to check for proper Feeder and Cross Conveyor Apron tension after the second load has been unloaded and to continue to check the tension until the initial give or slack in the Chains disappears.

__ Completely fill out Owner's Registration including Customer's signature, and return to company.

GEHL Company always takes the operator and his safety into consideration when designing farm machinery and guards exposed moving parts for his protection; however, some areas cannot be guarded or shielded in order to assure proper operation. In addition, the operator's manual and decals on the machine itself warn you of further danger and should be read and observed closely.

The safety alert symbol above means ATTENTION! BECOME ALERT! YOUR SAFETY IS INVOLVED! It stresses an attitude of"HEADS UP" for safety and can be found throughout this operator's manual and on the unit itself.

Remember: The careful operator is the best operator. Most accidents are caused by human error. Certain precautions must be observed to prevent the possibility of injury or damage.

Please read the rules listed below for safe operation BEFORE you operate this equipment.

Use of the word CAUTION, WARNING or DANGER herein and on the machine itself signals three degrees of hazard. CAUTION is used for general reminders of good safety practices or to direct attention to unsafe practices. WARNING is used to denote a specific potential hazard. DANGER is used to denote the most serious specific potential hazard.

Mandatory Safety Shutdown Procedure

Work of any type on machinery is always more dangerous when the machine is operating. Therefore, unless otherwise expressly instructed to the contrary, BEFORE cleaning, adjusting, lubricating or servicing this unit, the following MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE should ALWAYS be followed:

1. Disengage the tractor PTO

2. Shut off the tractor engine

3. Wait for all movement to stop

4. Remove the Telescoping Drive Connection from the tractor PTO shaft

ONLY when you have taken these precautions can you be sure it Is safe to proceed. Failure to follow the above procedure, could lead to death or serious bodily Injury!

Some photographs, used herein, may show Door(s), Guard(s), or Shleld(s) open or removed for illustration purposes ONLY! BE SURE that all Door(s), Guard(s), or Shield(s) are in their proper position, BEFORE the machine is operated!

Know how to STOP the Unloading Mechanism of the Forage Box BEFORE starting itl

BE SURE the PTO Shield turns freely BEFORE starting the tractor engine!

Frequently check operation of the Safety Clutch Mechanism and of the activating mechanisms, Safety Bar and Safety Cable, to insure that they are functioning properly!

Keep hands, feet and clothing away from the Beaters when they are revolving!

BE SURE the Locking Device on the Telescoping Universal Drive is engaged in the tractor PTO shaft groove BEFORE starting the tractor engine!

BEFORE cleaning, adjusting, lubricating or senlicing this unit, exercise the following MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE: disengage the tractor PTO, stop the tractor engine, make sure ALL movement has stopped, and remove the Telescoping Drive from the tractor PTO shaft!

ALWAYS engage the tractor parking brake BEFORE proceeding to unload the Forage Box!
