CHAPTER 9 SERVICE

CAUTION: BEFORE proceeding to perform all Service routines on this unit, exercise MANDATORY SAFETY SHUTDOWN PROCEDURE (page 8).

NOTE: The following information is referred to in both the Troubleshooting Guide and the Maintenance Schedule chapters of this manual. It should be understood that all services detailed in this chapter are Owner-Operator responsibilities. Where indicated, certain service routines should only be carried-out under the direction of an authorized GEHL equipment dealer.

Last, remove the two Cap Screws in the bottom and four Cap Screws in the top to detach the Transmission from the Unloading Unit. Cover the open end of the Housing to prevent dirt from entering the assembly when taking it to the dealer.

After the Transmission has been repaired or replaced, fill the Housing with 3-1! 2 lb of a good grade of multipurpose Lithium base grease. Reverse the removal procedure and reinstall the Transmission. Refer to the Transmission & Couplers Alignment topic in the Adjustments chapter for correct Beater Transmission and Drive Shaft Coupler alignment details.

BEATER TRANSMISSION (Figs. 9-1 & 9-2)

The Beater Drive Transmission is located above the Worm Gear Transmission with access gained by opening the large Door on the right side of the Unloading Unit.

NOTE: Internal Beater Transmission component repairs and replacements should only be attempted by (or under the direction of) an authorized GEHL equipment dealer.

To remove the Beater Transmission for service, first remove the lower (I st) Beater by detaching it from the Left and Right Beater Shafts. With the Beater removed, the Right Beater Shaft can be detached from the Transmission .Output Shaft. Next, release the 2nd Beater Drive Chain tension and remove the Drive Guard. Then, remove the Drive Chain from the Sprocket on the Transmission Output Shaft. Then, remove the two Coupler Bolts on the Transmission Input Shaft and slide

FEEDER APRON, CHAINS & SLATS (Fig. 9-3)

NOTE: If the Apron while the Forage Box is being unloaded, refer to the Operation chapter for details on the correct safe procedure to follow to unload the Box to uncover the problem.

Before proceeding to repair the problem or, as necessary, to take the Chain apart, first straighten the Locking Washers and then, release the Apron Tension Adjustment Bolts. With the tension released, proceed to repair the problem. Depending on whether the Box is a 14, 16 or 18-ft unit and depending on whether the unit has Pintle or Steel detachable Chains, the following listing provides the various repair parts and assemblies available for replacement components:

NOTE: When Links or sections of Chains are replaced, BE SURE to add the same number of Links that were removed. Once repair is completed, readjust the proper Apron tension per details in the Adjustments chapter and re-bend the Locking Washers to fix the Adjustment Bolt positions.

NOTE: When Links or sections of Chains are replaced, BE SURE to add the same number of Links that were removed. Once repair is completed, readjust the proper Cross Conveyor Apron tension per details in the Adjustments chapter and retighten the Jam Nuts.

WORM GEAR TRANSMISSION (See Fig. 9-1}

NOTE: Internal Worm Transmission component repairs and replacements should only be attempted by (or under the direction of) an authorized GEHL equipment dealer.

To remove the Worm Gear Transmission for service, first loosen the Takeup Bolt. Then, remove and retain the two Coupler Bolts on the Transmission Input Coupler and slide the Coupler toward the front of the machine. Then, rotate the Worm Gear Housing clockwise so that it can be slid-off the Apron Drive Shaft.

Once the Transmission has been repaired or replaced, reinstall it by reversing the removal procedure. Refer to the Adjustments chapter to the Transmissions & Couplers Alignment topic for correct Worm Gear Transmission and Drive Shaft Coupler alignment details. When the Transmission is reinstalled, BE SURE to replace the Apron Drive Shaft Plug and install a quart of Worm Gear Lube (GEHL part #067855).

CROSS CONVEYOR APRON, CHAINS & SLATS

Before proceeding to repair or remove the Cross Conveyor Chain, release tension by loosening the front and rear Jam Nuts on the right end of the Cross Conveyor. With tension released, proceed to repair the problem. The following listing provides the various repair parts and assemblies available for replacement components:
