2 - SAFETY INFORMATION
Use a truck or platform to tow a broken down machine. If it is necessary to tow the machine, provide appropriate signs for this procedure, as required by local regulations and observe the recommendations given in this manual. Load and unload the machine on firm level ground providing firm support for the wheels of the truck or trailer platform. Use resistant access ramps, with adequate height and tilt. Keep the truck or trailer free of mud, oil or slippery materials. Tie down the machine securely, securing the upper and lower structure to the chassis of the truck or trailer. Never align holes or slots using your fingers. Always use appropriate aligning tools. Remove cutting edges and burrs from spare parts. Use only effectively grounded auxiliary power sources to reduce the possibility of electric shock. Lift and handle heavy components using lifting and transport devices of appropriate capacity. Make sure the parts are supported by appropriate straps and hooks. Use the securing eyes provided for this purpose. Pay attention to people near the lifting area. Never pour fuel into open containers. Never use gasoline, solvents or other flammable fluids to clean the parts. Only use non-toxic and non-flammable solvents certified by the manufacturer. When using compressed air to clean parts, wear safety goggles with side shields. Limit the pressure to a maximum of 2 bar. Do not leave the engine running in an enclosed area without proper ventilation capable of removing harmful gases. Do not use open flames as light sources to look for leaks or inspect any component of the machine. Always make sure that all mechanical tools provided are in good condition. Never use tools that are poor condition or damaged. Move with extreme care when working under, on or near the machine or its attachments. In case of implement testing in which the engine must be running, a qualified operator must sit in the operator's seat the entire time the mechanic is working. Keep hands and clothing away from moving parts. Stop the engine and move the safety lever to the lock position before starting any adjustment or repair of a component. Do not carry out any maintenance work without prior authorization. Observe the replacement maintenance procedures and repair as described in the service manual. In case of servicing in the field, move the machine to level ground and lock it. If work on an sloped terrain cannot be avoided, securely lock the machine and its attachments. Move the machine to level ground as soon as possible. Do not use kinked chains or cables. The concentration of stresses caused by this condition may induce failures in the kinked area. Always wear heavy gloves when handling chains or cables. Chains and cables should be securely anchored using suitable hooks. The anchor points should be strong enough to withstand the desired load. Keep all people clear of the anchor point, cables or chains. Do not pull or tow unless the operator’s compartments of the machines involved are properly protected against a possible breakage of the cable or chain.
Keep the maintenance area clean and dry at all times. Clean all spills of water, fluid or fuel immediately. Do not pile up rags dirty with fluid or grease since they represent a fire hazard. Store them in closed metal containers. Rust and corrosion inhibitors are volatile and flammable. Prepare parts in well-ventilated areas. Keep flames away. Do not smoke. Store containers of fluids in cool and well-ventilated areas where they cannot be reached by unauthorized people. Do not carry loose objects in your pockets that might fall in open compartments without being noticed. Use appropriate safety equipment, such as: hard hat, protective footwear and gloves, safety goggles, because splinters or other particles may be ejected. Use appropriate welder equipment such as: dark protective goggles or mask, hard hat, protective equipment, protective gloves and shoes while welding or using electric arc. Never look at the electric arc without appropriate eye protection. Familiarize yourself with all lifting equipment and with its capabilities. Ensure that the jack support point on the machine is appropriate for the load applied and that the support under the jack is rigid and stable. Any equipment supported by a jack represents a potential danger. Always support the load with appropriate locking devices as a safety measure, before proceeding with the maintenance work. Always wear certified protective equipment such as protective goggles and gloves while handling the steel cables. Do not use jacks to adjust the clearance of the tracks. Follow the instructions given in the Repair Manual. Handle all parts carefully. Keep your hands and fingers away from gears, pulleys, belts, fan and components in movement. The implement is held static in one position, by the high pressure hydraulic circuit. Always lower the arm to the ground and relieve pressure from all hydraulic circuits before carrying out any type of maintenance or repair. Unexpected movements may occur.
TRAVEL AND TRANSPORT Before moving or transporting the machine, lock the upper structure swing to prevent accidental movement. Pay special attention during travel on sloping terrain, when going both up and down. Keep the upper structure aligned with the lower, and the bucket in a position that will allow supporting the machine in case of slipping. Do not move the machine toward the oblique direction of the slope. Do not move the machine in an area with many obstacles or people without seeking the assistance of another person to guide maneuvering. Know the load limits of bridges and the height of tunnels in advance. These limits can never be exceeded. You must also know the height, width, and weight of the machine. Get help from another person to signal when maneuvering in confined spaces.
