2 - SAFETY INFORMATION###_2_### Safety rules GENERAL Read the Operator's manual carefully before starting, operating, fueling, or performing maintenance services on the machine. Carefully read the explanation for all of the decals in the "Safety Decals" section. See page 2-39 in this manual. The safety decals placed on the machine are color-coded yellow with black borders when they refer to points where special ATTENTION must be paid and failure to observe them may cause a serious DANGER to the physical integrity of machine operators. It is essential that all machine operators know the meaning of each safety decal very well, since this considerably decreases the risk of accidents during operation. Do not allow unauthorized personnel to operate or perform maintenance services on this machine. Do not wear rings, wrist watches, jewellery, loose or hanging garments, such as ties, torn clothing, scarves, unbuttoned or unzipped jackets that can get caught in moving parts. Wear certified safety equipment such as: hard hat, no-slip footwear, heavy gloves, ear protection, protective goggles, reflector vests and respirators whenever necessary. Ask your employer about the safety regulations for the protective equipment. Always keep the operator’s compartment, steps, handrails and control handles clean and clear of foreign objects, oil, grease, mud or snow to reduce the risk of slipping or stumbling. Remove mud or grease from your shoes before entering the cab to operate the machine. Do not jump on or off the machine. Always keep both hands and one foot, or both feet and one hand, in contact with the steps and handrails. Be careful about the possibility of slipping on the steps and handrails, as well as on the ground around the machine. Wear protective boots or shoes with the soles made of highly no-slip rubber. Do not use the control levers or hydraulic hoses as supports. The hydraulic hoses and control levers are movable parts and do not provide solid support. In addition, control levers may be inadvertently moved and cause unexpected movement of the machine or its attachments. Never operate the machine or its attachments from any position other than sitting in the operator’s seat. Always keep your head, body, limbs, hands and feet inside the operator’s compartment to reduce exposure to external hazards. Do not exit the operator's compartment of the machine until it has come to a complete stop and the engine is shut down.
Check height, width and weight limitations which may be encountered at the work site and make sure the machine does not exceed them. Assess the exact location of gas ducts, water lines, telephone lines, sewers, overhead and underground electric lines and all other possible obstacles. Such locations should be defined by competent authorities. If necessary, require that maintenance be interrupted or said installations moved prior to starting the work. Determine the swing area of the rear of the upper frame and provide for barriers in order to limit access to others. Never exceed machine lifting capacity. Remain within the limits shown in the load capacity table located on the machine.
STARTING Never start or operate a machine with a defect. Walk around the machine and perform a visual inspection before climbing into the cab and starting the operation. Before starting the machine operation, avoid any possible dangerous condition. Check, adjust, and lock the operator's seat in the position for maximum riding comfort and complete accessibility to the controls. Also make sure that no one is in the radius of action of the machine or implement. Sound the horn. Obey all hand signals, safety indications and signs. Before starting machine, check that the controls are in the neutral position and that the safety lever is in the control lock position. Notify those responsible for maintenance of any malfunction in the systems or components, to obtain a proper corrective action. Due to the presence of flammable fluids, never check fuel level, refuel, charge the batteries in the presence of materials with smoke, open flames or sparks. Adjust all the rear-view mirrors for maximum visibility of the area behind the machine. Ensure that engine speed is appropriate for the job to be carried out. If any hydraulic control or system exhibits erratic performance or responds abnormally or slowly, have the machine checked for air in the system. Air in the hydraulic circuits may cause unexpected movements that may result in accidents. Consult this manual for the proper corrective action to be taken.
