1 - GENERAL INFORMATION
Fuel requirement Diesel The quality of fuel used is an important factor in obtaining dependable performance and satisfactory engine life. Fuels must be clean, well- refined, and non- corrosive to fuel system parts. Be sure to use fuel of a known quality from a reputable supplier.
To obtain optimum combustion and minimum engine wear, the fuel selected for use should conform to the application and property requirements outlined in the following ‘Diesel Fuel Selection Chart’.
NOTICE: Diesel approved for your engine must comply with the Specification Standard EN 590 (or equivalent). Be aware that use of Diesel not complying with the above mentioned Specification Standard could lead to severe damage to the engine and to the fuel system. Be aware that the use of non approved fuel may void the Warranty cover. Use Number 2- D in temperatures above -7 °C (19 °F). Use Number 1- D in temperatures below -7 °C (19 °F). Diesel fuel selection chart General Fuel Classification No. 1- D No. 2- D
Final Boiling Point (max) 288 °C (550 °F) 357 °C (675 °F)
Cetane Rating (min) 40* 40
Sulphur Content (max) 3 mg/kg 5 mg/kg
* When continually operating at low temperatures or high altitude, a minimum cetane rating of 45 is required.
For the best fuel economy, use Number 2- D fuel whenever temperatures allow.
NOTE: When long periods of idling or cold weather conditions below 0 °C (32 °F) are encountered or when continuously operating at an altitude above 1500 m (4921 ft) use Number 1- D fuel.
Do not use Number 2- D fuel below -7 °C (19 °F). The cold temperatures will cause the fuel to thicken, which may prevent the engine from running. (If this happens, contact your dealer.)
The use of diesel fuel with a sulphur content above 5 mg/kg requires more frequent oil changes as noted in the maintenance schedule. Refer to the info starting on page 7-12.
To be sure that a fuel meets the required properties, enlist the aid of a reputable fuel oil supplier. The responsibility for clean fuel lies with the fuel supplier as well as the fuel user.
The use of diesel fuel with a sulphur content above 10 mg/kg is not recommended.
