OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS

OPERATING IN COLD WEATHER 3. DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM: Check w ith y o u r fu e l s u pp lie r f or t h e correct cold weather fuel. Diesel engine power will be reduced if wax particles are in the fuel filter.

Cold weather conditions require spe cific p roce du res. Du rin g the se conditions, your machine will require special attention to prevent serious damage. Cold weather maintenance will exte nd th e service life of your machine.

Cold temperature operation can cause moisture condensation in the fuel tank. Keep the fuel tank full and check for wa ter fre qu en tly u sin g th e DR AIN WATER FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM instructions in this manual. Failure to remove water from the fuel may result in an inoperative engine and damage to the fuel system.

1. BATTERY AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Clean the battery and make sure the battery is at full charge.

NOTE: A fully charged battery at 0 ° F (-17°C) has only 40 percent of the normal starting power. When the temperature decreases to -20°F (29°C), the battery has only 18 percent of its power remaining.

4. COOLING SYSTEM: Check the coolant mixture before you operate in cold temperatures. A mixture of 5 0 % e th y le n e g lyc o l a n d 5 0 % water must be used in this machine. This mixture is used if the lo wes t a mbient temp era ture is ab ove -3 4°F (-37°C ). If th e a mb ie n t t em pe ra tu r e is lo we r, adjust the mixture to 60% ethylene g l y c o l a n d 4 0 % w a t e r. I t i s recommended that ethylene glycol and water be used in your machine all year.

If distilled water is added to the battery when the temperature is below 32 ° F (0 ° C), charge the battery or run the engine for approximately two hours. This procedure will prevent battery freezing. Inspe ct the ba tter y cab le s an d terminals. Clean the terminals and spray a c oat of batt ery t erm inal protector to prevent corrosion.

5. COLD TEMPERATURE STARTING AIDS: See your Case dealer for extra starting aids such as a battery heater.

2. LUBRICANTS: Use the correct viscosity oil in each component. As an example: SAE 30 engine oil at 32°F (0°C) increases the starting load by about 250 percent. Make sure you follow the recommended oil and filter service as shown in this manual.

6. GENERAL: Before you work the mac hine, s ee B efore Mov ing Machine in Cold Temperatures in this manual.
