WHEN ADDING OIL: When you add oil to the hydraulic reservoir between oil changes, you must use a mixture of Case HTO additive and SAE 10W-30 engine oil. Completely mix 1.06 quart (1.75 U.K. pints, 1 litre) Case HTO additive to 5 gallons (4.2 U.K. gallons, 19 litres) of 10W-30 engine oil (20 to 1 ratio).

WARNING: Hydraulic fluid or grease injected into your skin can cause severe injury or death. Keep your hands and body away from any pressurized leak. If fluid is injected into your skin, see a doctor immediately and have the fluid removed.

IMPORTANT: To release the pressure in the hydraulic system, do the following: 1.Lower the attachment to the ground. Make sure the attachment cannot move. 2.Stop the engine. 3.Operate the loader control levers and auxiliary pedal several times in both directions to release the hydraulic system pressure.

Oil Level

Park the machine on a level surface and put the bucket on the ground when you check the oil level or drain the reservoir.

Turn the dipstick counterclockwise and remove. If the fluid level is below the ADD mark on the dipstick, add fluid to raise the fluid level to the FULL mark. See page 90, Fluids and Lubricants for capacity. Do the following if you need to add oil to the reservoir.

1.Clean the filler cap (1) and the area around the filler cap with cleaning solvent.

2.Turn the filler cap 1/2 turn to relieve air pressure from the reservoir. Do not remove the filler cap until pressure is relieved. 3.Remove the filler cap. 4.Add oil to the reservoir until the oil level is at the FULL mark on the dipstick. IMPORTANT: When you add oil to the hydraulic reservoir, you must use a mixture of Case HTO additive and Case No. 1 engine oil (SAE 10W-30). Completely mix 1.06 U.S. quarts (1.75 U.K. pints,1 litre) of Case HTO additive to 5 U.S. gallons (4.2 U.K. gallons, 19 litres) of SAE 10W-30 oil (20 to 1 ratio).

WARNING: Fire Hazard: Do not smoke while filling the hydraulic reservoir. Do not fill near open flames.

M476 5.Apply clean oil to the filler cap seal and install the filler cap.

Checking the Hydraulic Filter Condition

1.Start the engine and raise the temperature of the hydraulic oil to operating temperature (the side of the hydraulic oil reservoir will feel very warm). To increase the temperature of the oil do the following:

A.Increase the engine speed to full throttle, roll back the loader bucket, and hold the control lever in this position for 5 seconds.

B.After 5 seconds, move the control lever to the NEUTRAL position for 10 seconds. C.Repeat this procedure until the side of the hydraulic reservoir feels very warm. Continued on next page

2.Run the engine at full throttle. If the hydraulic filter warning lamp illuminates, replace the filter. 2

1.Lower the bucket (attachment) to the ground and stop the engine. 2.Clean the area around the filler cap(1) and hydraulic filter (2) with cleaning solvent.

3.Turn the filler cap 1/2 turn to relieve the air pressure in the reservoir. Do not remove the filler cap. 4.Turn the filter counterclockwise and remove the hydraulic filter and dispose of it properly. 5.Apply a thin layer of clean grease or oil on the O-ring on the new hydraulic filter. 6.Install the filter. Use your hands to tighten the filter 1/2 turn after the filter O-ring touches the filter head.

DO NOT use a strap wrench to tighten the filter. 7.Start the engine and run the engine at idle for approximately 1 minute. 8.Stop the engine. 9.Check for leaks at the filter. 10.See Oil Level on page 91 and check the oil reservoir level.

Oil Change

If possible, drain the reservoir when the oil is warm.

1.Lower the bucket (attachment) to the ground and stop the engine. 2.Clean the area around the filler cap and the hydraulic filter with cleaning solvent. 3.Turn the filler cap 1/2 turn to relieve the air pressure in the reservoir. 4.Remove the filler cap. 5.Clean the area around the drain plug. Remove the drain plug and drain the oil into a suitable container. The reservoir capacity is 23 U.S. quarts (4.8 U.K. gallons, 21.8 litres).

BP96C037 6.Remove the hydraulic fluid level dipstick. Clean the breather on the dipstick in solvent and blow dry. 7.Install the drain plug. 8.Replace the filter. 9.Refill the reservoir, see Hydraulic

System Service Specifications on page 90 of this manual. 10.Apply clean to the filler cap seal and install the filler cap. 11.Start the engine. Run the engine at low idle for approximately 2 minutes.

12.Stop the engine. 13.Check for leaks at the filter. 14.See Oil Level on page 91 of this manual and check the oil level.

15.Dispose of the used oil and filter responsibly. Follow all local laws regarding safe disposal of oil and filters.

WARNING: Hydraulic fluid or grease injected into your skin can cause severe injury or death. Keep your hands and body away from any pressurized leak. If fluid is injected into your skin, see a doctor immediately and have the fluid removed.
