TO THE OWNER You are the owner of a Case Uni-Loader that has been designed and built to exact quality and safety standards. This Uni-Loader conforms to current safety regulations (see “Official Justifying Documents” on next page). However, this does not exclude all risk of accidents. That is why it is essential to observe elementary safety rules and precautions.

Read this manual carefully before operating the Uni-Loader. Instructions concerning safety, operation and maintenance, have been developed to permit safe service and operation of this Uni-Loader. Refer to the Detail Index at the end of this manual for locating specific information about your Machine.

This manual provides information essential to keeping your Uni-Loader in a good working condition providing a safe, reliable and durable machine.

Do not use this Uni-Loader for any application or purpose other than those described in this manual. If the Uni-Loader is to be used for duties involving the use of special attachments or equipment other than those approved by CASE, it will invalidate the CE certification. Any person making unauthorized modifications is responsible for the consequences.

For certain applications, the Uni-Loader must undergo regular inspection. Consult your CASE dealer.

Before entrusting this Uni-Loader to an operator, make sure that: 1. He has received necessary training on how to operate the Uni-Loader correctly and safely in one of our Training Centers or from an approved organization.

2. He has read and fully understood the instructions given in this manual.

Always keep this manual in the storage compartment provided for it. Make sure that it is always complete and in good condition. Consult your CASE dealer to obtain extra manuals or manuals in other languages.

Your CASE dealer is at your disposal for any further information. He will also provide any after-sale service you may require and genuine spare-parts, your guarantee of quality.

The attachments and equipment available for use with this Uni-Loader are intended for general earth moving purposes, handling, boring, ditch digging, etc. If the Uni-Loader is to be used for handling loads, make sure the machine is suitably equipped for this type of work. The Uni-Loader must be fitted with safety valves and an overload indicator and all legal requirements must be strictly observed.

The strict execution of the instructions provided in this manual will prevent accidents during machine use, maintenance and repair operations.

These instructions will only be effective if the machine receives proper maintenance. Any defects or anomalies must be repaired immediately.

IMPORTANT: Safety messages in this section point out situations which can be encountered during the normal operation and maintenance of your machine. These safety messages also give possible ways of dealing with these conditions.

SAFETY

BEFORE OPERATION • Do not operate this machine and do not do any maintenance work if you have not had the appropriate training and read and fully understood the instruction and warnings in this manual.

• Before starting the engine make sure you know the location and function of all the controls. Using the wrong control can cause serious injury or death.

• Be aware of and familiarize yourself with the safety decals on this machine.

• Make sure you know how to escape from the machine in the event of an emergency such as over-turn or the main exit being unusable.

• Avoid loose fitting clothing, loose or uncovered long hair, jewelry and loose personal articles.

• Different jobs will require different protective equipment. Items such as hard hats, protective shoes, heavy gloves, reflector type vests, respirators, and ear protection can be required. Know and use the equipment that is required before you start the job.

• Be prepared for emergencies. Always have a first aid kit and a good fire extinguisher available. Know how to use them to address emergencies.

• Know the hand signals used on your job. Follow the instructions of the flagman, signs, etc. See Hand Signals in this manual.

• Check that the rear door, guards, and covers are installed correctly and closed.

• Foreign material or grease on the steps and hand rails can cause an accident.

Keep the steps and hand rails clean.

• Know the rules, laws, and safety equipment necessary for transporting this machine on a road or highway.

• Before you operate at night check that all lamps illuminate.

• Before you operate in cold weather, check cold start procedure.

• Always face the machine and use the hand rails and steps when getting on. Do not rush.

• Before you start each day, walk around the machine and check for oil or fluid leaks. Replace all broken or missing parts and do the required lubrication and maintenance as shown in this manual. Clean all trash and debris from the machine.

• Remove all loose objects from the operators area and from the machine. Loose objects can jam controls and cause accidents.

• Before you start the engine, always fasten the seat belt and pull the seat bar down. See Operator Restraint System in this manual. Operate the machine only from the operators seat.

• Engine exhaust fumes can cause death. If you operate this machine in an enclosed area, use good ventilation to replace the exhaust fumes with fresh air.

SAFETY

• Make sure all persons are away from the machine and give a warning before you start the engine.

IMPORTANT: Never get on or off a moving machine.

• Adapt your operating techniques to the site (conditions, slopes, obstacles, surroundings). See Job Site Operation section.

MACHINE OPERATION • Familiarize yourself with the machines capabilities and the working space required.

• Various operations on different sites and in different weather conditions require

• Do not jump from the machine - you can get injured.

• Operate all the controls gradually for smooth operation.

• Check all controls in a clear area and make sure the machine is operating correctly.

• Do not allow other persons to ride on the machine. Other persons can fall or can cause an accident.

• Dust, fog, smoke, etc., can decrease your vision and cause an accident. Stop the machine or decrease the speed until you can see everything around you in the work area.

• Contact with high voltage power lines, underground cables, etc., can cause serious injury or death from electrocution.

• Before you drive or operate in an area with high voltage lines or cables, tell the power or utility company what you are going to do. You must HAVE THE POWER DISCONNECTED OR KEEP A SAFE WORKING DISTANCE from the lines or cables. You must know the safe working distance from the high voltage power equipment and must know any local safety codes or regulations that apply to the job site.

• Electrical cables, gas pipes, water pipes, sewers, or other underground objects can cause injury or death. Learn the location of underground hazards before you operate your machine in a new area.

• If this machine rolls over, you can be injured or killed. You must make a judgment if weather, road, or earth conditions will permit safe operation on a hill, ramp, or rough ground.

• Stay away from hazardous areas such as ditches, overhangs, etc. Walk around the work area before you start and look for hazards.

different protective clothing; helmet, gloves, safety shoes, reflective jacket, mask and ear plugs. Know how to use the equipment before you start operations.

SAFETY

• Be alert and always know the location of all workers in your area. Keep all other persons completely away from your machine. Injury or death can result if you do not follow these instructions.

• Operate the machine controls from the operators seat only.

• Do not operate at high speed with bucket raised to high positions.

• Do not operate at high speed with bucket blade obscured to prevent striking hidden objects.

• Before you operate equipment in any area where your visibility is reduced, such as next to a building, etc., always install a guard rail and warning signs to keep other persons away from your machine.

• DO NOT operate the machine while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

• In the event of poor running or machine failure, stop the machine immediately and report the matter. Take measures to prevent further use until malfunction is corrected (Place a DO NOT OPERATE tag on the control panel, remove the key, turn off all power sources, etc.). Before working on any hydraulic or electrical circuits, refer to the maintenance sections in this manual.

• Lower Lift Arms (Bucket) to the ground before leaving or servicing the vehicle.

FAILURE IN OPERATION • When you park the machine and before you leave the operators seat, check the seat bar for correct operation. The seat bar, when raised, engages the parking brake and locks the loader controls. See Testing the Seat Bar in this manual to check for correct operation. Lower the attachment to the ground.

Stop the engine and remove the key. Follow the instructions on Parking the Machine in this manual for parking the machine.

PARKING THE MACHINE • If the loader lift arms must be raised for servicing the machine, always install the support strut before you service the machine.

• Always face the machine and use the hand rails and steps when getting off. Do not rush and do not jump from the machine.

• Battery acid causes severe burns. Batteries contain sulfuric acid. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, or clothing. Antidote - EXTERNAL: Flush with water.

INTERNAL: Drink large quantities of water or milk. Follow with milk of magnesia, beaten egg or vegetable oil. Call a doctor immediately. EYES: Flush with water for 15 minutes and get medical attention promptly in all cases.

SAFETY

BURN PREVENTION • When the battery electrolyte is frozen, the battery can explode if, (1) you try to charge the battery, or (2) you try to jump start and run the engine. To prevent the battery electrolyte from freezing, try to keep the battery at full charge. If you do not follow these instructions, you or others in the area can be injured.

• Hot coolant can spray out when the radiator cap is removed. To remove the radiator cap, let the cooling system cool, turn to the first notch, wait until the pressure is released, then remove the radiator cap. You can be scalded if you remove the cap too quickly.

FIRE OR EXPLOSION PREVENTION • Engine fuel can cause an explosion or fire. Do not fill the fuel tank with the engine running, if you are near an open flame, or smoking, etc.

• Use nonflammable cleaning solvent to clean parts.

• A fire can cause injury or death. Always have a fire extinguisher on the machine. Make sure the fire extinguisher is serviced according to the manufacturers instructions.

• If a fire extinguisher has been used, always recharge or replace the fire extinguisher before operating the machine.

• Remove all trash or debris from the machine each day. Especially check the engine area and exhaust system.

• If you grind, or use a cutting torch on the machine, always remove the starting fluid container from the machine (if equipped). Use compressed air to remove any ether fumes from the area.

Before You Start

Before you leave the machine, you MUST lower the loader arms, then move the seat bars completely up. To release the seat bar levers, pull the release levers located toward the rear of the seat bars. Stop the engine and remove the key.

Before you start the engine or operate the machine, you MUST unlock the seat bars by pushing both seat bars completely down. When the seat bars are down, the loader controls are free to m ov e a n d th e p a r kin g b ra k e is released.

When both seat bars are up, the loader controls are locked in neutral and the parking brake is engaged. Check both seat bars for correct operation each day before you leave the machine. See Testing the Seat Bars in this manual to maintain proper operation.

NOTE: When the key switch is turned ON, the warning lamps will illuminate for 2 seconds. If the warning lamps do not illuminate, see the service manual for this machine or see your Case dealer.

If all systems are normal, the green Systems Normal lamp is illuminated. If any yellow warning lamp illuminates, stop at the end of the day or shift and correct the problem. If any red warning lamp illuminates, stop the machine and correct the problem immediately.

1. FUEL LEVEL GAUGE: This gauge indicates the amount of fuel in the fuel tank when the key switch is in the ON position. The symbols indicate full fuel tank, half full fuel tank, or empty fuel tank. The bottom lamp will start to flash when there are 4.3 UK gallons (19.6 litres) of fuel remaining in the fuel tank.

From this point on the machine can be operated for approximately 2 hours before the fuel tank is empty.

2. SYSTEMS NORMAL INDICATOR LAMP (Green): This lamp illuminates and stays illuminated during machine operation, or until one or more of the following condition occur; low engine oil pressure, high hydraulic fluid temperature, low alternator output, system voltage below 11 volts, high engine coolant temperature.

3. HYDRAULIC FILTER WARNING LAMP (Yellow): This lamp illuminates when the engine is started and the hydraulic fluid is cold, or when the engine is running and the hydraulic filter is in need of service. If the lamp is illuminated after 15 minutes of machine operation, or if the lamp illuminates during machine operation, stop the engine and service the hydraulic filter. If the lamp illuminates, it will not affect the Systems Normal indicator lamp and warning alarm.

INSTRUMENTS/CONTROLS 4. ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WARNING LAMP (Red): This lamp illuminates when the engine is running and the engine oil pressure is too low. Then, the warning alarm will actuate and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out.

Stop the engine and check for the problem immediately.

5. ENGINE TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP (Red): This lamp illuminates when the engine is running and the engine temperature is too high. Then, the warning alarm will actuate and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out.

Stop the engine and check for the problem immediately.

6. BATTERY WARNING LAMP (Red): This lamp illuminates and the warning alarm sounds when the battery voltage falls below 11 volts. The Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out.

8. SEAT BELT WARNING LAMP (Red): When the engine is started, this warning lamp illuminates for five seconds, the warning alarm will actuate for five seconds and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out for five seconds.

9. HYDRAULIC TEMPERATURE WARNING LAMP (Red): This warning lamp illuminates when the engine is running and the hydraulic fluid temperature is too high. Then the warning alarm will actuate and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out. Stop the machine and check for the problem immediately.

10. CHARGE PRESSURE WARNING LAMP (Red): This lamp illuminates when the engine is running and the transmission charge pressure is too low. Then the warning alarm will actuate and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will go out. Stop the machine and check for the problem.

11. AIR FILTER WARNING LAMP (Yellow): This warning lamp illuminates when the engine is running and the air filter requires service.

NOTE: If a problem is indicated, correct the problem. After correcting the problem, start the engine. The warning lamps will go out, the warning alarm will stop and the Systems Normal indicator lamp will illuminate.

7. HOURMETER: The hourmeter shows the total hours of engine operation in hours and tenths of an hour. Use the hourmeter to measure the intervals between maintenance.

After the recommended time, turn the key switch to START to start the engine. When actuated, the glow plugs heat the air in the engine.

D. START - Turn the key to this position to actuate the starter motor to start the engine.

OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS IMPORTANT: Do not operate the starter motor more than 30 seconds at one time. Let the starter motor cool for three minutes before you actuate the starter motor again. While the starter motor is engaged, white or black smoke must be seen at the exhaust pipe. If no smoke is seen, check the fuel supply.

6. Turn the key clockwise to Glow Plug position. You will hear the glow plug solenoid click and see the indicator lamp illuminate.

During the first 20 hours of operation for a new machine, or if the engine has been rebuilt, adhere to the following procedure:

When the machine is new or when a wheel is removed for service, check the wheel nuts every two hours of operation until the nuts remain tight.

The torque for the wheel nuts is 60 to 70 pound-feet (85 to 95 Nm).

LIFTING THE MACHINE WITH A CRANE When lifting this machine with a crane, use a four leg sling with a 7,000 pound (3175 kg) maximum rating with a 39 degree sling angle. Each leg of the sling must have a minimum length of 6 ft. (1.8m).

1. Know and use correct crane signals.

2. Inspect the lifting equipment daily for damaged or missing parts.

3. Keep all other persons out of the area when lifting. Do not move the machine over the heads of other persons.

Cold weather conditions require spe cific p roce du res. Du rin g the se conditions, your machine will require special attention to prevent serious damage. Cold weather maintenance will exte nd th e service life of your machine.

Cold temperature operation can cause moisture condensation in the fuel tank.

Keep the fuel tank full and check for wa ter fre qu en tly u sin g th e DR AIN WATER FROM THE FUEL SYSTEM instructions in this manual. Failure to remove water from the fuel may result in an inoperative engine and damage to the fuel system.

1. BATTERY AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: Clean the battery and make sure the battery is at full charge.

4. COOLING SYSTEM: Check the coolant mixture before you operate in cold temperatures. A mixture of 5 0 % e th y le n e g lyc o l a n d 5 0 % water must be used in this machine. This mixture is used if the lo wes t a mbient temp era ture is ab ove -3 4°F (-37°C ). If th e a mb ie n t t em pe ra tu r e is lo we r, adjust the mixture to 60% ethylene g l y c o l a n d 4 0 % w a t e r. I t i s recommended that ethylene glycol and water be used in your machine all year.

If distilled water is added to the battery when the temperature is below 32 ° F (0 ° C), charge the battery or run the engine for approximately two hours.

This procedure will prevent battery freezing.

1. Loosen the mounting bolts (1) on the two upper bucket mounts. Loosen the bucket wedge stop block bolts (2).

5. Use a soft faced hammer to hit the upper mounts. This will move the upper mounts down into the V of the Tool-Tach.

2. Move the machine forward slowly and raise the bucket or attachment.

The V ends (3) to the Tool-Tach must engage the upper mounts on the bucket.

6. Tighten the eight bolts to a torque of 65 to 85 pound-feet (88 to 115 Nm).

7. Use a soft faced hammer and lightly hit each wedge stop block to move the wedge stop block up.

Tighten the mounting bolts to a torque of 25 to 35 pound-feet (34 to 47 Nm).

3. Install the two bucket mounting pins (4) and retaining pins (5).

4. Push the upper mounts (6) on the bucket downward into the V on the Tool-Tach. Tighten each bolt to 20 pound-feet (27 Nm).

The backhoe receives hydraulic power from the auxiliary hydraulic system on the loader lift arms. Before you operate the backhoe, do the following: 1. Refer to the manufactures instruction manual for the correct oil flow.

2. Remove the lock pin from the storage hole.

3. Push down the lift side of the control pedal and loc k in the POWER position with the lock pin.

Object Lifting with the Backhoe

4. Test lift the object before you begin your job.

It is important to remember that lifting op erations with the b ackho e attachment are su bject to strict legislation. Your machine must be fitted with th e follo win g statuto ry safety equipment.

A. Move the machine close to the object to be lifted.

B. Use a cable or sling to fasten the object to the end of the dipper at the bucket pivot pin.

C. Lift the object with the backhoe so it is one or two inches (25 to 50 mm) above the ground.

SUPPORT STRUT FOR LOADER LIFT ARMS Carry out these procedures with 2 people to avoid entering and exiting the operators compartment under a raised bucket.

WARNING: If you service the machine with the loader lift arms raised, always use the support strut: Empty the loader bucket, raise the loader lift arms to maximum height and stop the engine. Remove the rear pin from the support strut and lower the support strut onto the cylinder rod. Install the rear pin in the support strut. Slowly lower the lift arms onto the support strut.

If you do not follow this procedure, you can cause serious injury or death if the loader lift arms are lowered by accident.

Air Cleaner Element Replace the air cleaner element after three washings or after the element has been in the machine for one year.

You must service the air filter elements if the air filter lamp illuminates when thengine is running. It is recommended that you service the elements at the end of the day or at the end of your shift. Stop the engine and lower the loader attachment to the ground before you service the elements.

Cleaning the Element

4. Use a water hose without a nozzle with pressure less than 40 psi (275 kPa, 2.8 bar) to remove all soap from the element.

Check the dirty element for damage and check the rubber seal on the end.

Push the rubber seal with your finger. If the rubber seal feels hard and does not move back to original shape, discard the element.

1. Remove the loose dirt with compressed air at 30 psi (207 kPa, 2.1bar) maximum. Hold the nozzle at least one inch (25 mm) from the element.

6. Use a light and inspect the element for holes or splits in the pleats.

Coolant Solution A mixture of 50% ethylene glycol and 50% water must be used in this machine.

This mixture is used if the lowest ambient temperature is above -34°F (-37°C). If the temperature is lower, adjust the mixture to 60% ethylene glycol, 40% water. It is recommended that ethylene glycol and water be used in your machine all year.

1. Use a suitable container to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap. Open the radiator drain valve and open the engine block drain valve (1).

6. Make sure that the outside of the engine and radiator is clean.

7. Fill the cooling system until the coolant level is up to the top of the radiator cap opening.

8. Fill the coolant reservoir up to the FULL mark on the reservoir.

9. Start the engine and increase the temperature of the engine coolant.

When the coolant is at operating temperature, stop the engine and allow to cool. Check the coolant level at the coolant reservoir only.

Do not remove the radiator cap.

Fuel Storage

If you keep fuel in storage for a period of time, you can get foreign material or water in the fuel storage tank. Many engine problems are caused by water in the fuel.

Use No. 2 diesel fuel in the engine of this machine. The use of other fuels can cause the loss of engine power and high fuel consumption.

Keep the fuel storage tank outside and keep th e fuel as coo l as po ssib le.

Remove water from the storage container at regular periods of time.

In very cold temperatures, a mixture of No. 1 and No. 2 d ie sel fu els is tempo rarily p ermitted . See th e following:

Fill the fuel tank at the end of the daily operating period to prevent condensation in the fuel tank.

NOTE: See your fuel dealer for winter fuel requirements in your area. If the temperature of the fuel lowers below the cloud point (wax appearance point), wax crystals in the fuel will restrict the fuel filter and cause the engine to lose power or not start.

WARNING: Engine fuel is flammable and can cause a fire or an explosion. Do not fill the fuel tank or service the fuel system near an open flame,welding, burning cigars, cigarettes, etc.

Fuel Conditioner

Replacing the Fuel Filter

Diesel Fuel Conditioner is available from your Case dealer. Follow th e instructions on the can. The conditioner will:

Replace the fuel filter every 500 hours o f o p er a tio n o r if yo u s ee a lar g e amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe.

1. Clean the fuel injectors, valves and manifold for increased service life.

Replace the fuel filter (2) every 500 hours of operation or if you see a large amount of black smoke coming from the exhaust pipe.

2. Disperse insoluble gummy deposits that can form in the fuel system.

1. Turn the fuel shutoff valve (3) completely clockwise to OFF.

3. Separate moisture from the fuel.

4. Stabilize the fuel in storage.

Fuel Tank Fill the fuel tank at the end of each day or at the end of each shift. This will help prevent condensation of water in the fuel tank. Always keep the area around the fuel cap (1) clean.

LUBRICATION 4. Remove the rubber seal from the stud on the filter head.

Removing Air from the Fuel System

5. Use a cloth and clean the gasket surfaces of the filter body.

You must remove air from the fue l system if (a) the fuel tank is empty, (b) parts in the fuel system are removed for service, or (c) the machine is kept in storage for three months or more.

6. Apply clean engine oil to the new rubber seal.

7. Install the rubber seal on the filter head stud.

8. Apply clean oil to the gasket of the new filter. Do not fill the new filter with fuel before installation.

9. Turn the filter clockwise onto the filter body until the filter gasket makes contact with the filter body.

Continue to tighten the filter with your hand for 1/2 to 3/4 turn.

IMPORTANT: Do not use a filter strap wrench to tighten the filter. You can cause a leak if the filter is dented with the wrench.

1. Fill the fuel tank and make sure the shutoff valve at the bottom of the tank is turn completely counterclockwise to (OPEN).

10. Turn the fuel shutoff valve completely counterclockwise to ON.

2. Loosen the air removal screw on the top of the fuel filter head. When air free fuel comes out, tighten the screw.

11. Fill the tank with fuel and bleed the air from the fuel system. See the topic Removing Air from the Fuel System in this manual.

3. Turn the knob of the air removal valve (1) counterclockwise to ON. 4. Disconnect the return line 2.

Oil Level

IMPORTANT: When you add oil to the hydraulic reservoir, you must use a mixture of Case HTO additive and Case No. 1 engine oil (SAE 10W-30).

Completely mix 1.06 U.S. quarts (1.75 U.K. pints,1 litre) of Case HTO additive to 5 U.S. gallons (4.2 U.K. gallons, 19 litres) of SAE 10W-30 oil (20 to 1 ratio).

Park the machine on a level surface and put the bucket on the ground when you check the oil level or drain the reservoir.

Checking the Hydraulic Filter Condition

Turn the dipstick counterclockwise and remove. If the fluid level is below the ADD mark on the dipstick, add fluid to raise the fluid level to the FULL mark.

1. Start the engine and raise the temperature of the hydraulic oil to operating temperature (the side of the hydraulic oil reservoir will feel v e r y w a r m ) . To i n c r e a s e t h e temperature of the oil do the following:

B. After 5 seconds, move the control lever to the NEUTRAL position for 10 seconds.

3. Remove the filler cap.

C. Repeat this procedure until the side of the hydraulic reservoir feels very warm.

4. Add oil to the reservoir until the oil level is at the FULL mark on the dipstick.

6. Remove the hydraulic fluid level dipstick. Clean the breather on the dipstick in solvent and blow dry.

If possible, drain the reservoir when the oil is warm.

7. Install the drain plug.

8. Replace the filter.

2. Clean the area around the filler cap and th e hydra ulic filter with cleaning solvent.

9. Refill the reservoir, see Hydraulic System Service Specifications on page 90 of this manual.

3. Turn the filler cap 1/2 turn to relieve the air pressure in the reservoir.

10. Apply clean to the filler cap seal and install the filler cap.

4. Remove the filler cap.

11. Start the engine. Run the engine at lo w id le fo r app roximately 2 minutes.

5. Clean the area around the drain plug. Remove the drain plug and dra in the oil in to a suita ble container. The reservoir capacity is 23 U.S. quarts (4.8 U.K. gallons, 21.8 litres).

Check the tension of the four drive c h a in s a ft e r t h e f ir s t 2 0 h o u r s o f operation on a new machine or new chains. Then, check the tension after every 250 hours of operation.

1. Lower the loader bucket to the ground . Turn the key switch to OFF. 2. Pull out the engine stop control (1) and stop the engine (1825 only).

6. Start the engine.

7. Push both steering control levers forward to move the machine a short distance forward.

14. Check the top strand of each rear chain (at the middle between each sprocket). Push down and pull up using approximately 5 pounds (2.3 kg) force. The total deflection must be 3/8 to 1/2 inch (10 to 13 mm).

NOTE: See Adjusting the Drive Chains on page page 103 of this manual if the chain tension is not correct.

15. Install the inspection covers.

16. Connect the connector to the fuel shutoff solenoid.

Adjusting the Drive Chains 1. Lower the bucket to the ground and stop the engine.

2. Use a jack or hoist and lift the ma ch ine. Install blocks or a xle stands under the machine as shown. Remove the wheels.

3. Clean the area around the inspection covers (1) and each axle housing (2).

5. Loosen the axle mounting nuts so the axle is free to move forward or rearward.

7. Tighten the five axle mounting nuts for each axle housing to a torque of 5 pound-feet (7 Nm).

10. Slowly push the steering controls for wa rd to tu rn th e axle s for a period of 45 seconds. Slowly pull the steering controls rearward to tur n the a xles in r eve rs e for a period of 45 seconds. Stop the engine.

11. Stop the engine. Check the chain tension of each chain. See steps 9 and 14 of Drive Chains on page page 101 of this manual.

12. Tighten the axle adjusting bolt just t ig h t e n o u g h t o h o l d th e a x l e housing in place. Tighten the lock nut.

13. Tighten the five axle housing mounting nuts on each axle to a torque of 115 to 125 pound - feet (155 to 170 Nm).

8. Loosen the chain adjusting bolts (1) until there is approximately 1/4 inch (6 mm) clearance between the end of the adjusting bolt and the axle housing.

14. Adjust the other three drive chains using the same procedure as in steps 5 through 13.

15. Install the inspection covers.

9. Sit in the operators seat, push the seat bar down. Start and run the engine at idle speed.

16. Install the four wheels and tighten the wheel nuts to a torque of 60 to 70 pound - feet (85 to 95 Nm).

17. Remove the blocks or stands from under the machine.

MAINTENANCE OF THE SEAT BELT 1. Check the seat belt for damage each time it is used. Replace all parts that are damaged.

2. Make sure that the mounting bolts of the seat belt are tight after every 500 ho urs o f ope ration. Se e Torque Specifications for Seat and Seat Bel on page page 110 of this manual.

3. Keep the seat belt clean. Use only soap and water to wash the seat belt. Dye or other compounds can cause damage to the seat belt.

SPARK ARRESTER MUFFLER WARNING: The spark arrester is not intended to be used in closed areas where there is dust or vapor that can cause an explosion.

Clean the spark arrester muffler after every 100 hours of operation. Use the following procedure.

1. Pull out the engine stop control to prevent the engine from starting (1825 only). On the 1825B disconnect the wire from the fuel shutoff solenoid.

2. Disconnect the electrical connector to the fuel shutoff solenoid (1825B only).

4. Leave the seat bars up during this procedure.

5. Turn the key to START for 30 seconds while another person is holding a block of wood over the outlet pipe of the spark arrester muffler. Turn the key to OFF. 6. Install the pipe plug in the spark arrester muffler.

7. Connect the electrical connector to the fuel shutoff solenoid.

3. Remove the pipe plug from the spark arrester muffler. If a new plug is needed, the new plug MUST be made of brass.

The seat belt is an important part of your ROPS. You must wear the seat belt at all times when you operate the machine.

Before you operate this machine, always make sure that the ROPS and operator’s seat belts are correctly installed.

Maintenance and Inspection of ROPS After the first 20 hours of operation and after every 500 hours of operation, do the following: 1. Check the torque of the ROPS mounting bolts, If necessary, tighten the bolts to the correct torque. See Torque Specifications for ROPS on page page 109 of this manual.

2. Check the operators seat and the mounting parts for the seat belt. Tighten the bolts to the correct torque. See Torque Specifications for Seat and Seat Belt on page page 110 of this manual. Replace parts that have wear or damage.

3. Check for cracks, rust, or holes in the ROPS and ROPS parts. Age, weather, and accidents can cause damage to the ROPS and ROPS parts. If you have any doubt about the ROPS system, see your Case dealer.

Battery Fluid Level Check the fluid level every 250 hours of operation.

If the fluid level is low, add clean or distilled water to each cell until the fluid level is at the split ring at the bottom of each cell opening.

IMPORTANT: If the temperature is 32°F (0°C) or below and you have added water to the battery, do the following: Connect a battery charger to the battery or run the engine for approximately two hours.

This procedure is necessary to mix the water with the electrolyte.

Cleaning the Battery Check the battery regularly for dirt, corrosion and damage. Dirt, mixed with electrolyte or moisture on the top of the b a t t e r y, c a n c a u s e a d is c h a r g e d condition in the battery. Use one of the following methods to clean the battery.

1. Use Case Battery Saver, part nu mb er M20 376 . Follow th e instructions on the container. This cleaner does not need water.

2. Use baking soda or ammonia and flush the outside of the battery with water. If you do not have Case Battery Saver, use other special cleaners to prevent corrosion on the battery terminals.

3. Spray the battery terminals with battery terminal protector. Do not use grease.

STORAGE If the machine is to be in storage for more than 30 days, park the machine inside a building. If a building is not available, park the machine in a dry area on planks and cover the machine with a waterproof covering.

1. Wash the machine.

2. Lubricate the machine at all grease fittings.

3. Paint any areas where the paint has been damaged.

4. Move all hydraulic controls to reliev e any pressure in the hydraulic circuits.

5. Drain the fuel tank.

6. Put approximately 1.7 U.K. gallons (8 litres) of diesel flushing oil in the fuel tank. Run the engine until the exhaust smoke is blue-white.

7. Drain the flushing oil from the fuel tank.

8. Put one teaspoon of Shell Oil Company VPI crystals in the fuel tank.

11. Clean or replace the air cleaner elements.

12. Cover the exposed cylinder rods, and valve spools and any other bare metal parts with Case Rust and Corrosion Preventive (Part Number B17510).

13. Charge the battery. Remove the battery from the machine and put the battery on a wooden pallet in a cool dry area. If possible, keep the battery in a bu ilding where the temp e ratu re is a bo ve fre ezin g (32°F, 0°C). Make sure the battery is clean.

14. Cover exhaust outlet.

15. Do periodical checks on protection.

Look for corrosion NOTE: Check the battery periodically for the correct electrolyte level. Test the electrolyte with a hydrometer. When the hydrometer reading is near 1.215, charge the battery.

9. Change the engine oil and replace the oil filter.

10. Drain the cooling system. Leave the drain valves open and do not tighten the radiator cap. Put a Do Not Operate tag in the cab.

Check tire pressure.

FUEL SYSTEM

Tighten all hose clamps.

Check for leaks.

Check drive chain tension..

Drain water and sediment from fuel tanks.

Check wheel nut torque.

Check brake operation.

Check battery.

Check the control levers for correct operation.

Check operation of starter, alternator, and instruments.

Check operators seat bar for correct operation.

Check operation of all lamps.

SAFETY

LUBRICATION

Inspect the ROPS.

Lubricate all pivot points.

Check the safety decals and replace if necessary.

ENGINE Check condition of drive belt.

Check the operator restraint system.

Check engine oil level.

Make sure the Operator’s Manual in in the manual storage box.

Check engine speed at idle and at full throttle.

Service air cleaner.

HYDRAULIC SYSTEM Check the oil level.

Check pressure setting of main relief valve.

Replace the hydraulic oil filter.
