Entstanden ist eine Kinderboutique, in der es nicht nur Mode für die Kleinen gibt, sondern alles, was das Kinderleben oder vielmehr das Leben mit Kind schön macht und rund – wie ein Karussell eben. Neben dem Standort mitten in der Stadt gibt’s auch einen in der Claudiastraße im Stadtteil Saggen. // Sandra Pirolt-Mader got the idea for her shop from her daughter. The result is a children‘s boutique, which not only offers fashion for the little ones, but offers everything that makes children‘s life, or rather life with children, beautiful and complete – just like a carousel. Da schenkt man sich Schmuck auch gern mal selbst. // Twin sisters Michela and Teresa show how simple and yet beautiful goldsmithing can be in their goldsmith‘s shop. Each piece is handmade by the two trained goldsmiths, delicate and light and a special little treat for everyday life. People like to indulge by giving themselves a gift from here.

WACHTER’S WOHNEN UND SCHENKEN LEOPOLDSTRASSE 13, WWW.WACHTERS.AT Der Laden von Barbara Wachter gehört zum Wiltener Platzl (von der Altstadt Richtung Süden) wie das Platzl selbst. Auf mittlerweile 85 Quadratmetern gibt es hier allerhand Feines fürs Daheim und Wunderbares zum Schenken und Mitbringen. Der Beiname passt schon ganz gut. // Barbara Wachter‘s shop belongs to the Wiltener Platzl (to the south of the old town) like the Platzl itself. With 85 square metres of space, it offers all sorts of fine things for the home and wonderful gifts and souvenirs to bring home. The last part of the store name (‘Living and Giving’) sums it up.

WOLF MEISTEROPTIK LEOPOLDSTRASSE 26, WWW.WOLF-OPTIK.AT Optikermeister Stefan Wolf ist einer, der sich auskennt mit gutem Sehen, und deshalb führt er nur ganz besondere Stücke in seinem Geschäft. Viele Brillen sind handgemacht – auch die Holzbrillen von Rolf Spectacles aus dem Tiroler Oberland sind dabei, fertigt die doch sein Bruder Roland. Massenware findet man hier nicht. Wir mögen auch die Architektur sehr. // Master optician Stefan Wolf is someone who knows about good vision and therefore he only carries very special items in his shop. Many glasses are handmade - the wooden glasses of Rolf Spectacles from the Upper Tyrol are part of the collection, since they are made by his brother Roland. There is no mass production here. We also like the architecture very much.

JANNY HERZOG LEOPOLDSTRASSE 19 In Jannys Vintageladen stöbert man in ganz vielen, wunderbaren und schönen alten Sachen. Eigentlich ist die Betreiberin Maler- und Lackierermeisterin, mit diesem WerkstattladenKleinod hat sie sich ihren Traum erfüllt. Und den ihrer Kunden gleich mit. Hier findet man Dinge, von denen man nicht mal wusste, dass man sie gesucht hat. // In Janny‘s vintage shop you can browse through many wonderful and beautiful old things. In fact, the owner is a master painter and expert varnisher and, with this workshop, she has fulfilled her dream. And that of her customers as well. Here you can find things that you did not even know you were looking for.

Neben verschiedenen handgeschöpften Stückseifen gibt’s hier unter anderem die herrliche „Tiroler Reine“, fest und flüssig, sowie wunderbare Naturkosmetik und mehr. Einfach über die Innbrücke rüber Richtung Metropolkino und dann rechts runter. // The soap factory is the oldest of its kind in Austria and has been in Innsbruck since 1777. In addition to various handmade soaps, you can find the wonderful „Tiroler Reine“ here, both in solid and liquid forms, as well as wonderful natural cosmetics and plenty more. Simply cross the Inn bridge over towards the Metropol cinema and then turn right.

ETWAS AUSSERHALB A LITTLE BIT OUT OF THE CENTRE

BLUMEN CHARISMA JOSEF-WILBURGER-STR. 19, WWW.BLUMENCHARISMA.AT Zugegeben, es liegt nicht gerade fußläufig zur Innenstadt, dennoch ist ein Abstecher in den Stadtteil Arzl durchaus empfehlenswert. Direkt angeschlossen an den Fruchthof, der ein wirklich tolles Sortiment führt, das ein Durchstöbern auf jeden Fall lohnt, und in dem man im Restaurant Fischiff auch ganz hervorragend isst (natürlich vorrangig Fisch, aber auch vieles andere), befindet sich das zauberhafte Blumengeschäft von Patricia Pernlochner. Neben duftenden (Schnitt-) Blumen finden Sie hier süße Accessoires. // Admittedly, it is not exactly within walking distance of the city centre, but a side trip to the Arzl district is recommended. The enchanting flower shop of Patricia Pernlochner is directly connected to the Fruchthof, which has a great assortment of goods worth a browse. You can also eat very well in the Fischiff restaurant (mainly fish but also offering a variety of other items). Besides fragrant (cut) flowers you can find sweet accessories.

ESSEN & TRINKEN // FOOD & DRINKS

CAFÉ CENTRAL GILMSTRASSE 5, WWW.CENTRAL.CO.AT Die Institution unter Innsbrucks Kaffeehäusern (in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Sparkassenplatz und gegenüber dem Resort) und täglich von 6:30 bis 21 Uhr geöffnet. Hier wird gefrühstückt, zu Mittag oder zu Abend gegessen, ein Kaffee oder ein Glas Wein getrunken, Zeitung gelesen oder einfach nur mal kurz dagesessen. Im Sommer ist auch die Terrasse geöffnet, wobei der Hausschatten bei Hitze Gold wert ist. // An institution among Innsbruck‘s coffee houses (close to Sparkassenplatz) and open daily from 06.30 to 21.00. You can have breakfast, lunch or dinner in the old Viennese style here, drink a coffee or a glass of wine, read some of the 65 different newspapers and magazines or just sit down for a moment. The clientele is diverse.

STRUDEL CAFÉ KRÖLL HOFGASSE 6, WWW.STRUDEL-CAFE.AT Vom Goldenen Dachl Richtung Hofburg findet sich Stephanie Cammerlanders kleines Café (mit feiner Sitzgelegenheit im Freien!), wo es nebst dem Namensgeber Strudel, der in allen erdenklichen süßen und herzhaften Varianten daherkommt, auch ganz wunderbare Frühstücksvariationen gibt. Und das ab sechs Uhr morgens, auch sonntags. // Stephanie Cammerlander‘s small café (with fine outdoor seating!) is on the way from the Golden Roof in the direction of the Hofburg. Here, in addition to the strudel featured in the café name, which comes in all imaginable sweet and savoury varieties, there are also some wonderful breakfast variations. And from six o‘clock in the morning, even on Sundays.

MARKTHALLE INNSBRUCK HERZOG-SIEGMUND-UFER 1–3 Sie ist zwar nicht so groß wie andernorts, trotzdem mögen wir „unsere“ Markthalle schon sehr. Vor allem in den letzten Jahren hat sich hier viel getan und die Halle eine enorme Aufwertung erfahren. Neben dem Bauernmarkt (Mo. bis Sa. von 8 bis 12 Uhr, tolles Frühstück!) gibt’s hier viel internationale Kulinarik, teils sitzt man im Freien fast direkt am Inn. // Although it is not as big as elsewhere, we like „our“ market hall very much. A lot has happened here especially in the last few years and the hall has undergone an enormous re-evaluation. Apart from the farmers‘ market (Mon. to Sat. from 08.00 to 12.00, a great breakfast!), there is plenty of international cuisine on offer here, and some restaurants where you can sit outside almost directly at the Inn.

HÖRTNAGL BURGGRABEN 3, WWW.HOERTNAGL.AT Hörtnagl steht in Tirol für absoluten Feinkostgenuss. L‘ARC – BRASSERIE ET BAR MÉDITERRANÉE LEOPOLDSTRASSE 7, WWW.LARC.AT In der Nähe der Triumphpforte (hinauf Richtung Wiltener Platzl) hat mit dem L’Arc Ende des letzten Jahres ein neues Lokal geöffnet, das Innsbruck in vielerlei Hinsicht bereichert. An der Bar schlürft man herrlich kreative Cocktails, im hinteren Bereich wird gegessen und ein gepflegtes Glas Wein getrunken. Die ungezwungene, fröhliche Lebensart, die man am Mittelmeer so liebt, hat samt südlichem Gemüt nicht nur in der Innenarchitektur Einzug gehalten, sondern spiegelt sich auch am Teller wider. // L‘Arc opened at the end of last year close to the Triumphpforte (up in the direction of Wiltener Platzl). It is a new restaurant that enriches Innsbruck in several ways. At the bar you can sip wonderfully creative cocktails, while you can drink a glass of wine and eat at the back. The informal, cheerful lifestyle that is so popular on the Mediterranean has not only found its way into the interior design but is also reflected on the plate.

Die Mädels machen ihre Sache echt gut und servieren neben einem feinen Frühstück kleine Mittagsgerichte – Pasta oder so genannte Landwichs, gerne auch vegan und glutenfrei, und ein Gericht der Woche. Wir mögen den Chai Latte und die hausgemachten Sirups sehr. // If you find yourself at the Wiltener Platzl, you should make a detour to the Immerland. The girls do an excellent job and serve a fine breakfast as well as small lunches - pasta or so-called „Landwichs“, with vegan and gluten-free options, and a dish of the week. We really like the chai latte and the homemade syrups.

WEITSICHT BRUNECKERSTRASSE 1, WWW.WEITSICHT-INNSBRUCK.AT Im 12. Stock des aDLERS Hotel im PEMA-Turm in der Nähe des Bahnhofs befindet sich das öffentliche Restaurant weitsicht. Bei einem Besuch kann man hier nicht nur richtig gut essen, sondern – der Name lässts vermuten – dank Panoramafenstern rundum auch richtig weit sehen. Und auch gleich was lernen, sind an den Scheiben doch die umliegenden Berge und Gipfel erklärt. Wer abends hier ist, kann danach gleich an die Bar wechseln. // The weitsicht restaurant is located on the 12th floor of the aDLERS Hotel in the PEMA tower near the railway station. During a visit here, you can not only eat well, but - the name suggests it in German - you can also see a long way thanks to the panorama windows. And you can learn something at the same time because the windows explain the surrounding mountains and peaks. Those who eat here in the evenings can head straight to the bar afterwards.

GASTHOF LAMM MARIAHILFSTRASSE 12, WWW.LAMM-INNSBRUCK.AT Drüben auf der anderen Innseite (dort wo die bunten Häuser stehen, die so gern fotografiert werden) ist der Gasthof Lamm zu Hause. Das klingt nun fast ein wenig altbacken, ist aber perfekt, um einen entspannten Abend zu verbringen. Die Karte ist traditionell, aber mit Pfiff, der Weinempfehlung können Sie getrost vertrauen und der Service ist unaufdringlich unkompliziert. // Over on the other side of the Inn (where the colourful houses are which are so popular as photo subjects) is the Gasthof Lamm. It sounds a bit old-fashioned now, but it is perfect for a relaxed evening. The menu is traditional but with a twist, you can trust the wine recommendation and the service is unobtrusively simple.

ABEND & NACHT // EVENING & NIGHT

BIERSTINDL KLOSTERGASSE 6, WWW.BIERSTINDL.EU Etwas abseits vom Schuss, der sensationelle Biergarten lohnt aber den Abstecher. In der Nähe von Stift Wilten sitzt man im großzügigen Garten bei einem Bier oder zwei, immer wieder finden auch Veranstaltungen statt – deshalb der Beiname „Kulturgasthaus“. Wer Hunger hat, wählt von der dem Ambiente entsprechenden traditionellen Karte (übrigens gern auch schon mittags). // A bit off the beaten track, this sensational beer garden is worth the detour. Near Stift Wilten, you can sit in the spacious garden with a beer or two, and events are staged here frequently - hence the nickname „Kulturgasthaus“. If you are hungry, you can choose from the traditional menu that matches the ambience (there is also a lunch menu).

MOUSTACHE HERZOG-OTTO-STRASSE 8, WWW.CAFE-MOUSTACHE.AT Untertags Café, abends trifft sich hier ein buntes Publikum auf den ein oder anderen Drink. Ein Schnurrbart muss übrigens nicht unbedingt sein. Unkompliziert, ungezwungen und keines der klassischen Touristenlokale. Vorbei am Goldenen Dachl Richtung Domplatz und beim Café Galerie (wo man auch gern auf ein, zwei oder drei Glaserln einkehren kann) links hinunter Richtung Inn. // By day a café, in the evening a diverse public meets here for a drink or two. A moustache, by the way, is not obligatory. Uncomplicated, informal, and not one of the classic tourist places. Past the Golden Roof in the direction of the Domplatz and left down towards the Inn at the Café Galerie (where you can also stop for a drink).

LA CANTINA

STAGE12 MARIA-THERESIEN-STRASSE 12, WWW.STAGE12.AT Vor einiger Zeit hat Innsbruck mit dem Stage12 ein neues Hotel bekommen. Und eine Bar gleich mit dazu. Hier genießen Sie tolle (saisonale) Cocktails – am Samstag gibt’s getrüffelte Popcorn dazu –, es gibt eine gute Auswahl an Spirituosen und wenn’s warm ist, Plätze im Freien. Einfach den Durchgang rechts neben dem Hard Rock Café nehmen. // Some time ago Innsbruck got a new hotel with the Stage12 and, with it, a new bar as well. Here you can enjoy great (seasonal) cocktails, there is a good selection of spirits and there are seats outside if the weather is good. On Saturdays they serve truffle popcorn. Just take the passage to the right of the Hard Rock Café.

LA CANTINA SPARKASSENPLATZ 2, INTERMEZZOITALIANO.COM Und da ist er wieder, der Sparkassenplatz. Eigentlich kann man hier den ganzen Tag verbringen. In der kleinen Cantina wissen wir vor allem den richtig guten Kaffee zu schätzen und die Auswahl an Weinen, weshalb man hier gerne auch mal länger sitzen bleibt. Jeden Donnerstag von 18:30 bis 22 Uhr gibt’s den Aperitivo Italiano, bei dem es schon mal ganz schön voll werden kann. // And here we are again, back at Sparkassenplatz. You can spend the whole day here. We especially appreciate the good coffee and the choice of wines in the Cantina, which is why people like to sit here for a while. Das liegt vor allem daran, dass das Zeughaus nicht mitten in der Stadt liegt, sondern man bewusst dort hingehen muss. Dennoch legen wir Ihnen einen Besuch ans Herz, weil es schon sehenswert ist, wenn man gar nicht ins Museum hineingeht. Im Museum wiederum erfahren Sie vieles zur Kulturgeschichte Tirols und Freiheitskämpfer Andreas Hofer. Im August wird zudem der Innenhof zu einem wunderbaren Open-Air-Kino. // It is one of the Tyrolean state museums, but still has a niche existence. This is mainly because the armoury is not located in the middle of the city and that means that a visit must be a conscious choice. Nevertheless, we recommend taking the time, because it is worth seeing even if you do not go into the museum at all. Inside the museum, however, you will learn a lot about the cultural history of Tyrol and freedom fighter Andreas Hofer. In August, the inner courtyard also becomes a wonderful open-air cinema.

All the exhibitions are newly developed works that have been created in the region and that is why they are so extraordinarily exciting. Admission is free for the display of outstanding international photographic art. Before going in or after coming out, we recommend a coffee or drink at the Sitzwohl-Bar on your way past.

ALPENZOO WEIHERBURGGASSE 37A, WWW.ALPENZOO.AT Eigentlich muss man ihn gar nicht extra erwähnen, weil er meist sowieso auf dem Plan steht. Dennoch: Auch wir Einheimischen lieben „unseren“ Alpenzoo und sind immer wieder gerne dort oben, hoch über den Dächern von Innsbruck. Wer mag, wählt das Kombiticket und kommt mit der Hungerburgbahn. Dann hat man gleich einen zweiten Fixpunkt auf der Innsbruck-To-do-List abgehakt. // Really, there is no need to mention this at all because it is usually on the schedule anyway. Nevertheless: we locals also love “our” Alpenzoo and love to be up there, high above the roofs of Innsbruck. If you like, you can choose the combined ticket and arrive with the Hungerburgbahn.
