School Goals

Clarkes Elementary Schools' focus for the 2021-22 school year includes continued growth in the areas of math and literacy instruction as well as assessment while creating and maintaining positive relationships with students and families. Grade level teams collaborate to determine student learning goals that guide instructional practices and inform cohort and individual needs. Based on the needs of individual students, teachers are able to differentiate instruction while fostering a commitment to excellence and success for all students.

State Goals

The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2025. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.

Safe & Welcoming Environment

Clarkes strives to ensure all students, staff, and families feel welcome while adhering to all local guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our school works as a team to implement a Positive Behavior Intervention System. As part of this system, the staff creates opportunities for student leadership. They also focus on individual as well as group recognition. Throughout the year students are celebrated for positive choices through “Cougar Paw” awards and other positive reinforcements. As part of creating a welcoming environment, the district provides access to translation and interpreters for our families who request these services.

We are committed to a school environment that is safe and secure for all students. In our school students have the responsibility to respect the rights of others, seek help when they know about a wrongful act, and resolve disputes peacefully. We teach antibullying lessons and provide behavioral support to students while utilizing a PBIS as a preventative tool for less desirable behaviors. As a team, we practice monthly safety drills and crisis response protocols.

Our school provided on-site Outdoor School for our 5th graders, as well as swimming lessons for our 4th and 5thgrade students. Our school collaborated with OSU Extension Services and the ESD to bring a highly engaging STEAM-based summer school program to our students and various grade levels participated in offcampus field trips throughout the school year.

We believe students learn best when parents are involved in their education. Through Parent Group meetings, Site Council meetings, newsletters, Google Classroom, conferences, and report cards we help parents understand and engage in the conversation with their child’s education. Families were encouraged to participate in various activities with the school from field trips to fundraisers.

Our school works to engage community members through various platforms and events including our parent education nights, Parent/Teacher group, and Back to School night. Also, weekly newsletters ensured all families were receiving up-todate information and opportunities for collaboration. Families had opportunities to participate in virtual meetings with teachers, administrators, and other families through zoom meetings or in person. Community members are also encouraged to fill out various surveys throughout the year to provide feedback on school culture and priorities for school spending.

School Goals

As we move into this upcoming school year, we continue to press forward with developing an academic and social environment that creates critical readers, outstanding writers, and influential communicators, thus making our students believe they are “Unstoppable.” In addition, our school goals include increasing student performance in mathematics and language arts, creating a positive school culture, and developing our staff’s instructional techniques informed by leading research in effective teaching practices. As a staff, we are committed to providing an unmatched educational experience for your child.

Our staff's priority is to create a safe and welcoming environment for all our students. This past year, we brought in expert trainers in a program called, Breaking Down The Walls. The program's design is to build empathy in our students and staff. We trained over 200 students and staff to understand the perspectives of others with the central concept that if we knew the story of others, we would interact much differently. This upcoming year, we will be bringing back Homeroom with a strong curriculum from a program called Character Strong.

About Our School

BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES

Middle school can be challenging for students as they navigate new environments, friendships, and puberty. As middle school staff, we must provide a hate and bully-free environment. As with all schools, we have a zero-tolerance policy on bullying and harassment. We instruct students throughout the year in homeroom, assemblies, and classroom content on what bullying and harassment are and the devastating effects they have on their victims. Our staff and students are also thoroughly trained in responding to emergencies. A variety of emergency drills are conducted at least once per month. In addition, our school has taken another step in safety and has installed brand new security cameras. Student and staff safety is and will continue to be our top priority.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

We believe at Molalla River Middle School that when students are involved, they achieve. Our school is proud to offer a multitude of opportunities for involvement; these include the following clubs: Art, School Beautification, Dungeon and Dragons, Green Team, Comic Book Creation, Sign Language, Chess, Dodgeball, and Basketball. Our school also offers cross country and track. In addition, football, basketball, and baseball are offered through the community of Molalla.

PARENT ENGAGEMENT

We love our parents and encourage them to get involved. Parents can get involved in our Parent Action Committee (PAC), volunteer at school events such as dances and field trips, be career speakers during career day, and volunteer in our library, lunchtime, or the main office. Parents are also encouraged to attend our sporting events, back-to-school nights, school conferences, and awards assemblies.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Molalla is a unique community that is tightly bonded. Each year our community comes together to support one another through a fundraiser, Share the Love. Molalla High School spearheads the event to help a family member in need. Our middle school proudly takes part in this effort. With the entire communities support, families in need have received upwards of $125,000. The middle school is looking forward to helping even more than in years past. In addition, our community has gone above and beyond this past summer, donating thousands of dollars to help us provide a safe and welcoming environment.

As we enter this school year we aim to promote continued success for those students who have remained on-track during the pandemic and will rebuild alongside those students that need additional support.

About Our School

ADVANCED COURSEWORK

Molalla High School is very proud of the opportunities provided for students to enhance and accelerate their learning in preparation for college and career readiness. There are over 150 college credits available through dual credit courses where students can earn credits both at MHS and through a partnering college or university. These opportunities exist across multiple content areas including writing, chemistry, engineering and manufacturing, mathematics, political science, history, agriculture, business, physical education, music, and Spanish. In addition to these dual credit classes, MHS students have the opportunity to pursue coursework through the Expanded Options program and access to an ever-increasing menu of Advanced Placement courses.

CAREER & TECHNICAL EDUCATION

Molalla High School has made a significant investment in ensuring that each of our Career and Technical programs is preparing students for industry-standard work. We have invested in our CTE facilities, equipment, and curriculum to provide the best experience possible for students. We are also collaborating with community partners to continue to build our programs. Currently, MHS offers a wide range of CTE courses in agriculture (including a 50-acre Land Lab), business, media arts, manufacturing and fabrication, welding, engineering, and biomedical science. In the last few years we have introduced programs in fire science, computer science, and early childhood education.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

MHS is proud to provide a comprehensive education to our students. We offer a range of enrichment opportunities through after-school programming in music, art, and theater. We offer sixteen clubs and twenty-three OSAAsponsored athletic programs. MHS has experienced strong success in each of these areas during recent years. Each program pursues excellence in academics, athletics, and character. MHS placed in the top 10 for the 4A classification in the OSAA cup: “a way to recognize overall excellence by schools in academics, activities, and athletics. The award honors a school's students, teachers, coaches, and the entire school community.” We have also partnered with Special Olympics to become a Champion Unified school and create inclusive enriched learning opportunities for ALL students.

PARENT & COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Molalla High School welcomes any parents or community partners that would like to contribute to the success of our students. If you are interested in becoming involved at MHS, please reach out directly to the main office for opportunities to partner. One of the primary points of pride for the students and staff at Molalla High School is our annual “Share the Love” campaign. This is a student-led initiative that takes place each February with the goal of raising funds for families in need throughout the Molalla community. Last year, this series of events, which combined efforts from within the school and the larger Molalla community, raised nearly $130,000 for Molalla families.
