Linus Pauling takes a multi-faceted approach to school improvement. Building strong relationships, providing learning that is rigorous and relevant, combined with meeting each student's needs in the classroom, are our goals. Using research-based best practices and strategies, along with small class sizes in 6th grade, support our goals. Retaining and hiring staff who keep students at the center is key to bringing us closer to our goal.

A positive climate and culture at Linus Pauling is important to our school. Character Strong is our social emotional curriculum that will be delivered two times each week in our PRIDE period. Students will receive grade level appropriate lessons covering a wide range of topics including conflict resolution, learning how to be a part of a productive team, developing and strengthening relationships and many other middle school themes. In addition to Character Strong, PBIS is used to support positive behavior in our school.

About Our School
BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
LPMS takes reports of bullying and harassment very seriously. Each report is thoroughly investigated and followed up with. Along with our timely response to incidents, we provide weekly reminders of expectations and ongoing social emotional learning lessons two times a week through Character Strong.
Our Safety team reviews the systems for our overall school safety plans and addresses concerns that come from students and staff.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Boys and girls cross country, soccer, basketball and track are the sports options for students at Linus Pauling. A large portion of the student body participates in the LPMS team sports and many of our staff work as coaches as well.
Student choice clubs have always been popular at LPMS. Students are able to form clubs around their particular interests and request a staff member to act as their advisor. They then recruit students to participate in the various clubs.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
Parent volunteers have provided many services to Linus Pauling and continue to be a key supporter of our school. Teacher appreciation, volunteer coordination and 8th grade celebrations are some of the functions of the Parent Teacher Organization. Thank you parents!!!

Corvallis is a community that values education and strongly supports our schools. We are fortunate to have partners such as Oregon State that provides speakers and activities that enrich our classrooms. Other organizations such as ABC House and Jackson Street Youth Shelter, provide support and information in the areas of social emotional learning.

Goal #2: The graduation rate for students navigating poverty, Hispanic students, and students with disabilities will exceed 90%.
Our Health 1 and Spartan Success class for all 9th graders as well as targeted intervention classes, supported Algebra 1 classes, and weekly advisor class and academic seminar time support goal number one. Summer School, AVID, CHS Prep classes, after-school tutoring, a dedicated Student Success Coach, and extension time support goal two.
