School Goals
Turner Elementary is committed to ensuring the needs of the whole child are addressed through strong socio-emotional support structures, rigorous academic standards, a research-based experiential education component, family engagement, and strong community support. Critical thinking, problem solving, and a strong foundation of curricular knowledge provide an education capable of navigating the middle school years and beyond. The most effective educational strategies are provided through frequent research and AVID trainings, focusing on best practices. Interventions are offered in both literacy and math so the needs of all learners are met.
State Goals
The Oregon Department of Education is partnering with school districts and local communities to ensure a 90% ontime, four year graduation rate by 2027. To progress toward this goal, the state will prioritize efforts to improve attendance, provide a well-rounded education, invest in implementing culturally responsive practices, and promote continuous improvement to close opportunity and achievement gaps for historically and currently underserved students.
Safe & Welcoming Environment
Turner Elementary is committed to creating a welcoming environment where kids and families thrive. We believe that by creating a safe, joyful atmosphere, kids will want to come to school and feel the love of learning. For a child to succeed, they must belong and feel part of something bigger than themselves. This is what our school seeks to provide. We desire to embrace and fulfill the needs of every student who enters our school; and believe each contributes greatly to the overall health of Turner. We believe every child possesses incredible potential to grow as learners who contribute to their community.

About Our School
BULLYING, HARASSMENT, AND SAFETY POLICIES
Turner Elementary has a strong bullying and harassment policy. We work hard to create relationships with our kids and families so issues are addressed immediately and through a partnership with staff, kids, and families. We work hard to collaboratively problem solve by teaching the skills necessary to work well with others, believing that all kids have the will; some lack the skill. We provide the tools and work proactively to ensure kids possess the necessary skills to navigate peer relationships in a positive manner.
EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
Throughout the school year, Turner Elementary offers a series of after school clubs and activities designed to educate, enrich, and engage students outside of the classroom walls. Field experiences are valued and prioritized as an essential element of a good education. Outside Turner is a program that seeks to provide an out of school activity for every grade level, such as taking students to Wildlife Safari and skiing at Hoodoo. We want to broaden the lens by which students see the world, and allow them the imagination to dream big. Engaged, active, hands-on, brains-on experiences are an important component of a child's education that they remember long after they leave the walls of a classroom.
PARENT ENGAGEMENT
Active parent involvement is a key component of Turner Elementary. A monthly parent club meets and discusses ways to support the school and kids. Family recess and Turner Talks is held at Turner throughout the school year, to engage our families so they are familiar with the school setting and have an opportunity to express their concerns and share ideas on how to best educate our children. Each Fall we hold an Open House inviting our families to connect, setting the stage for a great year; and a Spring Showcase in April will display our learning and engage our community with fun, interactive curricular activities. We love our parent volunteers and welcome them throughout the year.
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
A strong community is the foundation of Cascade's success; and we do whatever we can to connect with our community. We visit and engage with local businesses and community members to listen to their concerns and hear the voices of these important stakeholders. We listen and respond to concerns , and work hard to invite them in to our school so they have a firm understanding of how their tax dollars are being used for good. We care about the Cascade community, and it shows in our interactions and commitment to form an important partnership to better the lives of our kids. The quality of a school is reflected in the community it serves; and an important emphasis is placed on providing students with a strong sense of community ownership.
