International Education Why Indonesia? Indonesia has a young and rapidly growing labour force of more than 135 million people. To maximise the benefits of its demographic dividend, the Indonesian Government has ambitious skilled worker targets which are fuelling demand for education and training services. The Indonesia-Australia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IA-CEPA) has also unlocked potential for vocational education and training (VET) providers to deliver training through majority Australian-owned businesses in Indonesia. Currently, Indonesia presents an opportunity for Western Australian providers to explore opportunities of mutual benefit through trade in education services, including identification of transnational education partnerships and initiatives to grow enrolments from Indonesia. Indonesia is an identified priority market for the Western Australian international education sector and the State is well placed to leverage its proximity to Indonesia to increase awareness of Western Australia as a study destination and promote its world-class education offerings to attract more Indonesian students.
Why Western Australia? The international education sector in Western Australia is diverse and includes: five internationally accredited universities; private and public schools; hands-on VET institutions; and renowned English language colleges. Perth is a safe place to live and study with a reliable public transport network and friendly international student community. Most Western Australian universities have a global focus with campuses in multiple locations around the world and can deliver both offshore and onshore units. Perth is also one of the most accessible global cities and is closer to Jakarta than any other Australian state capital. This makes Perth the ideal location for international students with quick access to friends and family during study breaks. Western Australia also boasts a prosperous economy with diverse work opportunities and innovative projects. While studying in Western Australia, students can also work in Perth and gain experience through the many industry internships on offer. Western Australia also holds abundant employment opportunities for recent graduates with Perth hosting the corporate headquarters of more than 30 per cent of businesses on the Australian Stock Exchange.
