Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries

The mission of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries is to enable dynamic and inclusive communities and support the Western Australian economy. They do this by:

• maintaining a fit for purpose, sound legislative and policy framework that enables efficient and effective services to the community, supported by good governance

• promoting participation and achievement in sport, recreation, culture and arts

• supporting the growth of Western Australia’s creative industries

• promoting and enhance the benefits of cultural diversity and social inclusion across all aspects of their community

• celebrating Western Australia’s unique Aboriginal cultures through the preservation of history and heritage, and creating the opportunity for the community to engage with Aboriginal arts and cultural experiences in order to foster greater understanding in a contemporary context

• developing and maintain infrastructure to support sporting, cultural and recreational activities across the State ranging from community facilities to museums, galleries, theatres, sports stadium, high performance sports infrastructure and public spaces.
