Department of Primary Industry and Regional Development
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) works to protect the sustainability of natural resources and accelerate ongoing economic growth, job creation and regional development.
Western Australia’s primary industries – including agriculture, commercial fisheries and aquaculture – provide jobs and exports, and underpin a growing food industry and other agribusinesses. Our fisheries also support a thriving recreational fishing sector and regional tourism.
An important part of our role is to support the growth of strong regional communities that are desirable places to live, work and invest.

Department of Training and Workforce Development
The Department of Training and Workforce Development (DTWD) manages and coordinates the State’s vocational education and training (VET) sector by identifying the current and emerging skills needed for Western Australia and managing the investment of public resources to provide quality training delivered via a statewide network of TAFE colleges and publicly funded private training providers.
The Department leads agile training and workforce strategies that enable all Western Australians to participate in a highly skilled and diversified economy, and does this by:
• enabling all Western Australians access to training
• lifting participation of Aboriginal people and under-represented groups in training and employment
• growing the supply of skilled workers to sustain the State’s economy
• developing skills and capabilities for new and emerging industries
• partnering with TAFE to support their training delivery.
