Pedestrian bridge restores Onehunga’s
precious coastal connection

make the footbridge shine. Included in the recipe book was 2000 cubic metres of wall abutment, 501 square metres of precast cladding panels and 432 square metres of precast deck panels. Throw into the mix a colossal steel truss, an inordinate amount of timber cladding and the late addition of anti-throw screens (useful in stopping objects from being tossed off the bridge) and you’re really looking at something special. The ink on the contract had barely dried when Fulton Hogan (Civil North) began work. This was truly a team effort, with the firm working alongside subcontractors, suppliers and partners, including Tonkin & Taylor and design partners URS and Isthmus Group. Isthmus, for example, worked with URS’ engineers to develop the steel truss system, and with Tonkin & Taylor to develop the
