MESSAGE

FROM THE CEO WRITTEN BY REBECCA PICKERING chief executive officer & executive director civil apprenticeships & careers ltd Can you believe we are halfway through 2022? As suspected, the year is stepping up to be the most ‘interesting’ yet, as we continue to dig in off the back of the COVID-19 Omicron variant, and are now facing down the challenges of resource constraints and the pressures heavily impacting our industry. Our new State Labor Government is making strong inroads (pardon the pun) towards fulfilling its pre-election commitments. Positively, CCF SA is actively engaged with the relevant Government stakeholders to ensure the civil industry thrives so we can deliver the infrastructure needs of South Australia. We are currently working through the following with Government representatives and industry:

ф Skilling and building civil workforce capability and capacity to ensure skilled workers are available to industry to meet infrastructure needs ф Micro-credential release to industry including: • Quick cut • Small Civil Team Leader • Apprentice Supervisor • Tunnelling Support Worker ф Industry led training roll out commencing with our ‘Vac Truck Operator’ short course ф Civil industry and career promotion to our community is ongoing with over 40 school career events and community programs already completed ф Civil Apprenticeship employment

ф Rise/Fall terms for inclusion in new Department Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) Contracts – assisting industry’s management of material cost escalation

ф Investigating a new activity based ‘verification of competency service’ to industry to support safe workplaces

ф Bank Guarantee security arrangements and release time frames for early trades engaged on DIT projects ф Civil Apprenticeship wage subsidy and funding support for Hosts and Apprentice Employers ф Implementing and making available Civil Flexible Industry Pathways (FIPs) to South Australian Secondary Schools
