A Brush with Destiny: The Early Years Kevin Goolsby's love for art was ignited at the tender age of 12. The Chicago-born artist found himself torn between two passions baseball and art. As a young talent, he honed his skills by painting, drawing, and illustrating iconic figures like Michael Jordan and Spike Lee. Despite his artistic flair, the allure of the Little League World Series led him to prioritize baseball over art during his teenage years. The Journey to SCAD High school proved to be a turning point for Kevin as he began contemplating his future. A crucial visit by a SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) recruiter opened up a world of possibilities. SCAD's offerings, which encompassed both art and sports, presented an opportunity for Kevin to pursue both of his passions. The decision to choose between the two became one of the toughest he would ever face. Navigating Challenges and Seizing Opportunities Kevin's dream of becoming an All-American baseball player was momentarily shattered when his starting position was given to a freshman, leading to his removal from the team. Despite this setback, he persevered and earned a place on SCAD's baseball team as a center fielder. His skill and dedication paid off, making him the first art student to get drafted by a Major League Baseball team. The Evolution of a Photographer At SCAD, Kevin majored in graphic design with a minor in photography. He immersed himself in learning the intricacies of 16
