Outline In this unit of the module you will develop your vocal technique in a manner that will complement your learning and development in the Pure Voice class. Exploring body and breath work into development of resonance, pitch range and clarity/dynamic articulation. The work graduates towards a sophisticated consideration of projection with a variety of acoustic settings e.g. outside, on stage, a TV studio etc. You will learn to apply your acquired textual skills to communicate text in a variety of forms, structures and genre to respond to your emotional and creative impulses which can be sustainable within a professional setting. At the end of this module you will receive an analysis of your progress with recommendations for further developmental exercises. What will I be expected to achieve? On completion of the module you will be expected to be able to: Skills • apply dynamic use of body and breath, resonance, pitch range, forward placement and clarity of articulation in application to a range of texts • speak text with ease, nuance, specificity, truthful connection and creativity. • skilfully speak in verse - in particular applied to Shakespearean or equivalent text. • critically analyse and break down the story and meaning within the text, to inform vocal choices. • work with the sustainability and health of the voice in mind Knowledge and Understanding • Have a sophisticated imaginative and creative appreciation of the use of sound in the construction language. • Have an understanding of the theoretical aspects of speaking verse - in particular, iambic pentameter, antithesis, rhythm and imagery • Demonstrate an understanding of vocal physiology with reference to body, breath, voice and speech Values and Attitudes • Have confidence in your voice as an immediate, sensitive and powerful means of expression. • Work with trust, generosity, openness and resilience as a collaborative performer within an inclusive ensemble • Value the working environment as a professional space in which you may work playfully and freely to take creative risks
