Outline
You will rehearse a play and perform it for a public audience in an ArtsEd theatre venue. This unit of the module provides you with a practical experience of a full rehearsal and performance process for a script for stage. A full creative and technical team will support the production to offer you as near a professional, industry experience as possible. You will be able to explore your process over a 4-5 week rehearsal period and experience the demands of maintaining your
development over this period as well as sustaining a role over multiple performances.
What will I be expected to achieve?
On successful completion of the module you will be expected to be able to: Skills • use your learning within an integrated practice to create a fully-embodied interpretation of role • work at a high professional level, both independently and with a director. • use a high level of personal judgement, responsibility, creativity and initiative in your work as a professional actor, both independently and with your director

How will I learn?
You will be cast in a play chosen by the Course Leaders. You will work with a visiting professional director, supported by a full production team and production values, and the continuing guidance and support of your tutors. You will apply business and employment skills, assisting in the publicity and marketing of the season. Activities will include: • Director-led rehearsals • Voice and movement support (including stage combat, choreography, musical direction where appropriate) • Independent research • Independent reflection and development • Technical rehearsals • Dress rehearsals • Public performances
How will I be assessed?
The mark for ‘Public Production’ is divided between process and performance. 50% of the mark is a formative assessment awarded by your director according to how you engage with process in relation to the assessment criteria for the module. 50% of the mark is a summative assessment awarded by three outside markers (drawn from the ArtsEd staff.) The mark awarded for ‘Public Production’ forms 60% of your mark for the Performance module.

What do I have to do to pass the module?
You are required to achieve a pass mark of 50% for both the showcase and the public production. The overall mark for the module is calculated according to the weightings given in the table above. The Performance module carries a weighting of 30% of your overall mark for the degree.
How will I get feedback on my assessments?
You will be given verbal and written feedback on your rehearsal process and performance by the director of your production.
