Outline

To offer an awareness of the creative and expressive voice in order to tune a vocal instrument which is capable of expressing nuances of thought and emotion. Through Pure Voice classes you will develop a thorough understanding of how your voice works and how to work safely, imaginatively, truthfully and dynamically, to create a more practicable and adaptable tool for your process. In your voice and language class you will develop the appreciation of how the investment and creative exploration of sounds in words can inform and shapes meaning and carry feeling. Through this you will develop your unique relationship to and ownership of language. You will have Singing classes to further develop your voice as well as approach song as an actor. In Term 2 you will take Accent classes to find increased understanding and specificity in your ability to articulate your own voice whilst developing accents. The units of Expressive Voice are Pure Voice, Voice and Language, Singing and Accent.

What will I be expected to achieve?

On successful completion of the module you will be expected to be able to: Skills • maintain and utilise a highly responsive and excellently prepared vocal apparatus • demonstrate a high level of personal creativity using all the techniques taught • demonstrate a free and responsive vocal expression of the inner life of a character

Knowledge and understanding • demonstrate an understanding of how the taught techniques are part of the personal creative process • demonstrate an understanding of how the taught techniques lead to a free and responsive vocal expression of the inner life of a character

Values and Attitudes • recognise the value of a healthy vocal apparatus as a creative tool for the actor • work with trust, generosity, openness and resilience as a collaborative performer within an inclusive ensemble • value the working environment as a professional space in which you may work playfully and freely to take creative risks • discover autonomy over your process so that you may apply yourself independently to explore creativity, rigour, adaptability and specificity within your work
