Outline

This module aims to deepen your understanding of your physical self in order to facilitate more creative expression outside of personal habitual patterns. You will be given a greater awareness of your physical potential and tools to realise a greater range of ability which may be used in service of role. Within this work you will develop greater strength and flexibility within a more centred and grounded body. You will work with a variety of methodologies which may include Laban, Pure Movement, Feldenkrais, Suzuki, Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, Alexander Technique, Lecoq, Viewpoints, Michael Chekhov and Animal Studies. The unit parts of this module are Embodied Action & Awareness, Thinking Body and Physical Skills.

What will I be expected to achieve

On successful completion of the module you will be expected to be able to: Skills • effect a greater range of physical choices in your rehearsal and performance work • use your somatic knowledge to inform and aid psychological choices in your work Knowledge and understanding • understand the psycho-physical relationship between the outer physical form and the corresponding sensation shifts within the interior space • demonstrate a good understanding of the semiotics of movement • have a greater awareness of your spatial relationships within a performance context
