An introduction to the technical and creative challenges of working on a television or film set. You will receive practical experience of exploring your process in relation to the demands of acting for camera to create effective screen performances. You will also be given an understanding of the professional expectations and required practicalities of working on a film set. You will also develop skills in relation to self-taping, an essential part of many screen audition processes.

What will I be expected to achieve?

On successful completion of this unit of the module you will be expected to be able to:

Skills • deliver engaging and truthful performances on screen, and at first readings • adapt techniques taught within other modules (including voice, text analysis, movement) to suit onscreen acting • work from an imagined environment allowing thought to stimulate behaviour • demonstrate a clear practical understanding of the technical requirements for the delivery of screen performance in comparison to live performance • present yourself confidently and professionally within a casting environment, be that through a self-tape or a traditional ‘in the room’ casting, and on a professional

TV/Film set

Knowledge and understanding • demonstrate an understanding of the various craft responsibilities and skills of the staff and crew involved in TV and film production • demonstrate understanding of the theoretical and practical expectations of working in the professional screen industry • analyse and reflect on your own performances and those of others

Values and Attitudes • work with trust, generosity, openness and resilience as a collaborative performer within an inclusive ensemble • value the working environment as a professional space in which you may work playfully and freely to take creative risks • discover autonomy over your process so that you may apply yourself independently to explore creativity, rigour, adaptability and specificity within your work
