Outline

The unit focuses on making your physical actions linked to an intention or thought. It builds upon the work done in Pure Movement to make you grounded, open and physically available and then asks you to feed intention into all actions so that you link mind and body, thought and action. Emphasis is placed on making you as physical and emotionally articulate as possible, looking at where intention and thought sit in the body and how movements convey intention. You will work with a variety of methodologies which may include: Laban, Lecoq, Michael Chekhov, Animal Studies and Viewpoints.

What will I be expected to achieve?

On successful completion of the module you will be expected to be able to: Skills • Fully own movement choices within your physical range. • Have a strong grasp of techniques needed to transform into character body with truth. • Connect impulse to a clear physical action that is specific and moves beyond habitual ways of moving. • Ensure movements are connected to intention and emotional truth and vice versa. • Use movement to affect another actor in the space.

Knowledge and understanding • Understand the pyscho/physical connection and its role in performance. • Understand your own movement patterns and the need to extend beyond them. • Understand how to use stage space in relation to set, architecture and other actors. • Know the value of making specific movement choices relevant to the needs of the character and given circumstance of any scene. • Know how to apply movement work to the acting module.

Values and Attitudes • Work with trust, generosity, openness and resilience as a collaborative performer within an inclusive ensemble.
