Blue Joanna by Alexia Sextou We pretend it’s alright. I saw a poem written on the tiles of the bathroom stall The sea looked freezing and I felt like / freezing with it I remember when we Ran on the beach icicle sand running in our shoes Our lungs about to burst I stood up and left class Said I have to go to a doctor to cure the cold My knuckles are cracked We blast music from crippling earphones Scream into the distance We pretend it’s alright and our hair gets sticky from the rain that never rained And I remember the sky was dark and blue and purple and colorless at the same time and the sea was freezing My knuckles froze with it You are my Siegfried I think you have come to save me We pretend it’s alright For a short moment you can say it almost really is.
