Remembering life
from Pegasus 2021-22

When you have shed your last tear and your eyes feel dry like the harshest deserts When you cool off from that fight, the one that you hate discussing when your friends ask When you remember how pure your first love felt, like a beam of summer warmth in the cold winter When your pockets are empty, but your mind is full That’s when you appreciate life When you can’t stay still any longer, sitting by the door, staring, waiting for a visitor When your father’s belt finally sits comfortably around your waist, and you see him in your reflection When you get rid of that old couch, and along with the dust and the stains, a bit of your past gets thrown out When your final breath draws near, and you try desperately to steal from time itself one last moment, like a child reaching for a far-away cookie jar That’s when you appreciate life
