Blue Joanna by Alexia Sextou

We pretend it’ s alright. I saw a poem written on the tiles of the bathroom stall The sea looked freezing and I felt like / freezing with it I remember when we Ran on the beach icicle sand running in our shoes Our lungs about to burst I stood up and left class Said I have to go to a doctor to cure the cold My knuckles are cracked We blast music from crippling earphones Scream into the distance We pretend it’ s alright and our hair gets sticky from the rain that never rained And I remember the sky was dark and blue and purple and colorless at the same time and the sea was freezing My knuckles froze with it You are my Siegfried I think you have come to save me We pretend it’ s alright For a short moment you can say it almost really is.
