A Waterdale Home
By Zahava Mimran
Hadassah Schauder had always been a massive fan of Waterdale products, an American home décor and Judaica brand for the Jewish home. ‘I used to follow them on Instagram; I love how each product is just so beautifully made, so innovative and unique. I’d always dreamt of owning so many products from their collection,’ she says. Little did she know, she would one day be the proud owner of a ‘Waterdale home.' When Hadassah made the move back from Israel to Manchester, she began to look for something which she could do from home, enabling her to look after her children whilst she worked. One day, she was browsing the Waterdale collection on Instagram, when she had a brainwave. ‘I sent them a message, offering to sell their products in the UK. I really thought they’d never get back to me – I didn’t even bother telling my husband what I’d done’. So it came as a surprise when she received a reply from them that very night, telling her that they were interested in discussing it. Although Waterdale products were already being sold in a few stores in the UK, the company was eager to expand further. With their blessing, Hadassah set up her business, ordering from the company who then ship to her directly from China where they produce their range.e 'We started exactly a year ago', she says, ‘And I thought that it would be just a small home business - Waterdale themselves had told me to start small. It was Chanuka time which is a great time for gifting, so I bought the entire Chanuka collection from them and stored it in my spare bedroom. However, due to its popularity, as soon as people heard that I was stocking it, I began to get flooded with requests. At that point I told my husband 'We’ve got to get bigger.'r Alongside selling from their beautiful website, they now sell wholesale to various Judaica and Gifting shops throughout the UK, and have moved their storage from their spare bedroom to a nearby warehouse. They’ve also recently begun selling into Antwerp, and are currently looking to expand throughout Europe.e 'We stock a large selection of the Waterdale collection, but it’s always challenging to know what quantities to bring. When we have new items, we tend to order just a few, until we see how they sell. Staples, on the other hand, we order in much bigger quantities, like the Netilas Yadayim cups for example’. In general though, the products speak for themselves and fly off the shelves. ‘The thing with Waterdale,’ Hadassah points out, ‘Is that as each piece is launched, it is totally unique. They also pay incredible attention to detail and they do an amazing job of balancing practicality and usability; creating products that are convenient whilst also enhancing your home and table. Not only that, but everything is acrylic or leather so it’s all wipe clean. They come out with new pieces all the time, and are constantly innovating. My contact in America tells me that when she goes to bed that’s what she dreams of at night! They have a really massive selection; I remember being so excited when the art pieces came out. I just had to get a kosel hanging for my home - it adds so much beauty to the room. I also love my acrylic wig heads, and they make fantastic presents for newlyweds. Although in truth, really any of their products would make a perfect present for a Chosson and kallah.'h Hadassah finds it a very satisfying business to work in – ‘We get great feedback and there’s nothing like going to peoples’ houses and seeing items from the collection there. We also love being able to satisfy our customers. We once received a bulk order for a campaign that was taking place the following week, and although we usually can’t deliver in such timeframes, we worked really hard, went through the US, and we pulled it off in 4 days. To us, customer satisfaction is our main priority, and we take pride in our many happy clients’.
