Many people who work in construction that are self employed are paid via a scheme called the “construction industry scheme” – this is known as “CIS”.

YorkshireInformationPoint - Issue 18 - 2022 P9

Do you work in Construction?

Did you know that when you are a CIS worker, you can use your gross income for affordability for your mortgage, as opposed to your self employed net profit? This usually means that you can borrow more money and do not necessarily have to be self employed for as long as you usually have to be. Your gross income is the amount you are paid by your contractor before tax and expenses are deducted, this means that the lender considers your income in the same way as if you were an employed person. Providing you have been in the same line of work previously, you can look to use your contractor income after receiving just 3 months payments. So, for example, if you were an employed painter, bricklayer or joiner but have since gone contracting then this could be just what you need. When going self employed, you would usually need to have at least had one years accounts or completed one years self assessment before looking to obtain a mortgage. This is not the case with this scheme and is therefore a massive opportunity for people working in construction to jump onto the property ladder or achieve a remortgage. Equally, if you have been in construction industry a while, we can look at using your gross income, (before tax deductions), averaged over a 12 or 24 month period depending on each lender. If your average is then higher over this period than over the last 3 months then we will look at your income this way. Our role is to work out the best and most appropriate way to secure you the mortgage you require, providing it meets your budget and assessed affordability, and advise you of your options appropriately.

Joe is actually a CIS contractor and his gross income on his CIS Statements for the last 3 months has been as follows: January £3000, December £2500, November £3000. Using an average of the last 3 months income (£34,000) and working out the annual amount from this, potentially Joe could borrow £152,660! That is over £40,000 more which may be the difference between securing your dream home or not.

SCIENCE ADVERTURE CENTRE A fantastic day out for the whole family, Magna Science Adventure Centre is an experiential venue packed with interactive exhibits and a rich history that reaches from its origins in Rotherham to links as far as Cornwall! Explore the wonders of science and technology through the elements in the four pavilions – Water, Air, Earth and Fire; Make a splash with water cannons and weights, work a real JCB, spark excitement at the fire tornado and even explode a rock face! Magna is a coats-on experience set in the vast, former Templeborough Steelworks, where the awesome Big Melt Show brings the story of the world’s once largest electric melting shop to life every hour. The fun even continues outside with the huge adventure playground and summertime splash park. Magna is an exceptional science museum based in Rotherham, just up the road from Meadowhall. Its doors opened nearly 21 years ago as a part of the Millenium Projects initiative alongside the likes of Cornwall’s Eden Project, to educate children and adults alike on the sciences and technology in a creative, interactive and inspiring way; As well as making for a unique and memorable day out in South Yorkshire! Even before it achieved the title of largest electric melting shop in the world, Magna and the surrounding area was still being used for production and progression. The site has been inhabited by hard workers and forward thinkers since as far back as 50AD, when the Romans established it as

Templeborough Fort to produce iron and it has only continued to evolve since. Magna has four pavilions inspired by the elements and how they contributed to the steelworking process. On the lowest floor is the Earth Pavilion, where the procedure of extracting iron from natural minerals is represented through interactive and kinetic attractions including a working JCB and the chance to detonate a quarry wall. Working upwards is the Water Pavilion, where fun activities like a huge steel waterwheel and several different water guns explore how the planet’s most common liquid was involved in the cooling and powering of the shop’s machinery. We suggest packing a spare change of clothes for children, as this

area does get quite wet! The third pavilion is Fire, where the famous fire tornado can be ignited with just the press of a button, and the steel smelting process can be replicated with the electric furnace. Finally, suspended from the roof as a great translucent airship is the Air Pavilion, explaining how air was used to assist in the forge’s combustion with air cannons that create smoke patterns, pipes that explore how sound is made and even a real-life tornado! Running alongside these amazing element halls is The Big Melt, where every hour - sparks fly and the story of the Templeborough Steelworks is narrated, accompanied by moving machinery, explosive lights and booming sound effects; the show is

spectacular to watch, intriguing to hear and adored by everyone who visits! On weekdays, Magna opens its doors to schools and educational groups for exciting, informative trips. During the weekends, the attraction is fully accessible to the public with workshops that everyone can get involved in and experience. And, for when the weather is sunny and you fancy being even more adventurous, Magna boasts Sci Tek: one of the UK’s largest outdoor play zones, suitable for all ages! The park’s watery counterpart, Aqua Tek, is perfect for cooling off after a wander around the attraction and opens at the end of May each year for the Summer break - if you fancy a visit, you’ll be needing a towel or two!

THE GREAT WAYS YOU CAN USE PLANTINUM CBD TO IMPROVE YOUR WELLBEING It’s a cultural obsession that’s taking over the UK supplement market and once you’ve tried it there’s no turning back. We’re talking about CBD, the super ingredient currently making major waves in the wellness and health supplement industry. Plantinum CBD, the premium CBD brand wants to share their journey, the science behind its hailed benefits and the top 5 ways it can help improve your wellbeing. The amazing bonus to the Plantinum CBD range is its Novel Food Range approved and all the products have full traceability. Plantinum wants to bust the myths and be a trusted partner on all things CBD, so we’ve created a space that provides guidance and education, as well as the only place to shop for exclusive products that have the ability to boost your wellbeing and enhance your performance not only in general well-being but sports performance and recovery too. So whether you’re a daily runner, Sunday league football player or elite athlete – the benefits can be felt.

So, without further ado, let’s set the record straight and get to fully understand CBD and its essentials! CBD 101 CBD is the acronym for Cannabidiol, which is one of over 100 naturally occurring compounds found in the cannabis plant. Before we go any further, let’s be clear about one thing: CBD will not make you high! The psychoactive element of cannabis comes from a completely different compound known as THC. Because they’re derived from hemp rather than marijuana, CBD products contain less than 0.2% THC and therefore have no mind-altering effects. That also means it isn’t addictive, and, most importantly, it’s legal. Your body loves it You may be new to CBD, but our bodies certainly aren’t, that’s thanks to something known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which governs a process called ‘homeostasis’ – essentially, your body’s reaction to its environment, such as temperature.

metabolism, immune function, and even reproductive function. Taking CBD engages these receptors, which communicate with the rest of your body to fix any imbalances your ECS detects. That means that it can essentially read what your body needs and naturally help it to restore harmony. Getting started If you’re new to CBD, the best way to get started is to target specific problems, which in turn will improve your emotional wellbeing. At Plantinum CBD, we group our products according to the five most common needs that everyone comes to us for guidance on:

SUN 03 APR 2022. EFL TROPHY - 2021 / 22 FINAL

Rotherham United 4 Sutton United 2 (after extra time) Rotherham boss Paul Warne said he was ready to congratulate Sutton United counterpart Matt Gray before his side staged a dramatic comeback to seal a 4-2 victory after extra time in the Papa John's Trophy final. League Two Sutton led 2-1 and looked to have sealed an unlikely win over the League One leaders before Jordi Osei-Tutu equalised in the sixth minute of added time at the end of the second half at Wembley. Donovan Wilson fired the U's into a first-half lead before Ben Wiles' stunning strike levelled for Rotherham before half-time. Sutton captain Craig Eastmond's cool finish again gave the south London side the lead early in the second half, only for Osei-Tutu's strike to make it 2-2 right at the end. Goals in extra time courtesy of Chiedozie Ogbene's long-range effort and Michael Ihiekwe's header sent the Millers fans into a frenzy and ensured the trophy would be heading back up north to South Yorkshire. "I'd considered with about two minutes to go to shake Matt's hand and say well done," said Warne. "I just didn't think it was going to be our day to get that equalising goal. "When it went into extra time I just felt a bit more comfortable that we looked a little bit fitter. I'm not being disrespectful to the opposition but I just felt like we looked like we had healthier players on the pitch. "Fair play to Sutton, I thought they were really good, they were brave with their shape." Underdogs Sutton, who were promoted to the English Football League for the first time last summer, made a bright start and pressed Rotherham into mistakes. And it was the U's who took the lead through Wilson when Rotherham striker Michael Smith failed to deal with a floated ball into the box. Will Randall took it down before laying off to Wilson, who calmly finished in the bottom corner from 15 yards. The goal sparked Rotherham into life and they were soon level with a sublime long-range effort from Wiles. The midfielder sent a curling, dipping strike from 20 yards in via the crossbar to level the score at half-time. Sutton skipper Eastmond made it 21 at the start of the second half, turning home at the second attempt with a cute finish with the outside of his right

boot after his initial effort was blocked. The League Two side looked like they had done enough to claim the trophy when the fourth official signalled for seven minutes of added time, but substitute Osei-Tutu had other ideas as he whipped the ball into the top corner one minute from the end. The goal sucked the life out of Sutton's players and Rotherham's class shone through in extra time as they peppered the Sutton goal, with Ogbene's fierce strike from range and Ihiekwe's powerful header completing the turnaround for the Yorkshire club. Sutton's fans were dreaming of a fairytale win when their captain Eastmond, who has been with the club since 2015, put them 2-1 ahead. They looked to have done enough as the match ticked deep into added time but the equaliser was as deflating for them as it was inspiring for Rotherham. Extra time looked to be a step too far as they struggled to keep up with the fitness of the higher-league side but boss Gray and the Sutton supporters will be proud of the performance of their team today and this season. Last season the club were playing in the National League on a 3G pitch and

faced a monumental challenge in their first season in League Two, yet they find themselves in 11th place with seven games to play and a chance of securing a play-off place. Sutton boss Matt Gray: "I am gutted because we're whiskers away from a great performance and walking up those steps as winners. "Unfortunately we just couldn't see it out for those last few moments. "I'm gutted for everyone, the players more than anybody, for the shifts and hard work they put in and obviously for

the supporters and the board for being that close. "I felt extra time was just a little step too far for us. Full credit to Rotherham and Paul Warne and I congratulate them all. "It's been a great experience for us in the build-up and coming here but I could tell the focus in the group [was there], knowing exactly what we had to do to try and get the job done. "That's why I'm gutted for them more than anybody because they were so close." By Chris Peddy, BBC Sport at Wembley

225g digestive biscuits 150g butter, melted 397g can caramel or 400g dulce de leche 3 small bananas , sliced 300ml double cream 1 tbsp icing sugar 1 square dark chocolate (optional)

STEP 1 Crush the digestive biscuits, either by hand using a wooden spoon, or in a food processor, until you get fine crumbs, tip into a bowl. Mix the crushed biscuits with the melted butter until fully combined. Tip the mixture into a 23cm loose bottomed fluted tart tin and cover the tin, including the sides, with the biscuit in an even layer. Push down with the back of a spoon to smooth the surface and chill for 1 hr, or overnight. STEP 2 Beat the caramel to loosen and spoon it over the bottom of the biscuit base. Spread it out evenly using the back of a spoon or palette knife. Gently push the chopped banana into the top of the caramel until the base is covered. Put in the fridge.

STEP 3 Whip the cream with the icing sugar until billowy and thick. Take the pie out of the fridge and spoon the whipped cream on top of the bananas. Grate the dark chocolate over the cream, if you like, and serve.
