I just wanted to start this months newsletter by thanking Brian Stock who was always very supportive of the WFCSA and its aims and objectives.

I wish him well in the future.

I think even his fiercest critic couldn’t fault the effort he put in, but let’s leave that there and say no more.

We are now entering the David Oldfield era and for people who live up in my neck of the woods he will eternally be known as “Daisy”. I have messaged some Peterborough and Leicester fans to find out why and will update you next month! As long as it's a family friendly answer of course.

I last came across Daisy, sorry David, in 2000 when Peterborough United visited our village team Yaxley (now of the Northern Premier League) in a pre-season friendly.

Posh were managed by Barry Fry. Again, I think it best I leave that one there !

Oldfield was (if my memory serves me right) playing up front with Jason Lee (yes that one!!) before coming off at half time and standing in the tea queue signing autographs.

None of these anecdotes make him suitable to be Terras manager of course, the proof of the pudding is on the pitch.

But it's not just down to Oldfield. The players need to step up and all of the officials, volunteers and supporters of the Terras need to pull in the same direction and get behind the team between now and the end of the season.

As important as getting behind the team is going to be staying behind them as this relegation battle is going to be a rollercoaster where the collective (as the new boss calls it) effort is what can get us pushing up the league. Let's get cracking…

Chairman's Update Welcome to you all to another monthly newsletter as we embark on yet another year, full of hope and expectation! What it holds for us, only time will tell. I hope you all had a safe and enjoyable festive period and a good new year. There is quite a bit to get through since the last time!

Firstly, congratulations to all the Christmas Raffle prize winners and a massive thank you to Tony Hobson for stepping in to conduct the draw for us when the match was postponed.

The raffle was a great success and that was down to your fabulous support: over 1800 tickets were sold which was just amazing! So, our thanks go to everyone involved, either selling tickets, donating prizes or buying the tickets!

It was very disappointing to lose our festive fixtures, especially the home game, as the finances are so important to us and how we function as a club. Regardless of when the home fixture is rescheduled for, we will not get a Boxing Day sized crowd in, that is for sure!

But we have to deal with it and get on with things.

The change of manager maybe had an inevitable feel to it for some of you, and I suppose in a results-based industry, it is one of the facts of life. I for one was very sorry it did not work out for Brian, as he is such a fine person and was a pleasure to work with. He was very supportive of the Terras Supporters Club and the work we do, which is a really strong motivator for us all. We all wish Brian all the very best for the future.

As one door closes, another door opens and we offer a warm welcome to The Terras to our new manager David Oldfield. David has a tough job on his hands, as we now sit in the bottom three relegation places and sadly, results have not been kind to us leaving ourselves somewhat adrift of the teams we need to catch. But we have to look at the positives, and focus on what we can do, and maybe stop looking at everyone else from here on in.

At the time of writing, there are 23 league games to go, with plenty of points up for grabs.

Make no bones about it, we are in for a scrap, and I was pleased to hear David say we needed a collective effort, from all of us, to push the team forward.

We need to get behind the lads, encourage and enthuse, because the task of keeping us in this league is going to fall on the nucleus of players already at the club! It has been said time and again, and I am happy to repeat, your board of directors are not going to gamble money we don’t have and jeopardise the long term stability of the club!

We live within our means, so that means turning up to home game in numbers to help boost the finances, staying away will only hurt our efforts.

We can also help by playing the Wessex Fantasy Football or the Claret and Blue Lottery, every bit of help we get, no matter the size, is going to have a collective impact. cont.

Before I sign off, we have received some really sad news. We were informed of the passing of Pete Read, a loyal Terras fan, who will have been known to many of you. Pete never missed a game until COVID struck and sadly was then diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Pete lost his battle with this terrible disease earlier in the month. On behalf of Terras fans everywhere, we send our condolences to Pete’s family and friends and our thoughts are with them at this sad time.

Membership update - with Ken Willis The money raised from the New Years Day raffle was fantastic and I’d like to add my thanks to those from Pete Nash mentioned earlier in this newsletter.

1st prize of the smart TV went to Sandy Rothwell, a worthy winner. She couldn’t believe it when I turned up at her front door on Boxing Day morning and was so happy as her own TV was old and she was having major issues with it.

Prizes included the following and went to Nigel Richardson (Dormeo Mattress), Frank Haverson (Amazon Fire tablet), Lauren Ellis (pair of watches), Jo Davies (Echo Dot), Diane Moore (New Years Hamper) and numerous other prizes thanks to kind donations from Little Angus Butchers, Marlboro, Royal Oak, Howleys, Wilkinsons and generous supporters.

Interview with Sean Carunana from

I recently grabbed some time on Zoom to talk to Sean from the Lifestyle Card as the partnership between Weymouth FC and his company is new and plenty of supporters have been wanting to know a little bit more about it.

From a fans point of view, if you attend a match in the near future, collect a flyer and you will be able to get a digital card which will entitle you to discounts in areas such as retail and hospitality.

Sean has said that “We support businesses of all sizes by putting money back into the local community and helping to boost the local economy while helping members to make savings on daily expenditure. Weymouth FC are at the heart of the local community and we are delighted to offer their fans access to our discounts and offers. “ Since I caught up with Sean he has confirmed that a number of local businesses in and around Weymouth have joined the scheme.

WFC will benefit from transactions involving supporters cards whilst business will get incremental sales with offers getting people to use them at times that are usually quieter.
