February 2023

EDITORIAL - James Warrener

I am so displeased I closed last months editorial with a su estion that this season could o down to the final day in terms o whether we stay up or not.

I was hopin to positively hex us into a len thy winnin spree, double darin the ates as it were. But it looks like there is oin to be a late season escape to pull off or the Terras.

Our current lea ue position is partially down to how we per ormed in 2022 and elsewhere Duncan Gardner fills us in on the calendar year statistics.

It was reat to see the club actively workin in the community on their recent visit to St Au ustine's School.

This is part o community li e that many clubs stru le to ulfil, so the act we can et out there and start to work with children to try and et them committed to becomin Terras supporters is a real positive.

With a battle on and off the field that needs winnin , it would be easy to or et these little details so it's nice to report our club is workin hard in this area.

This quote rom the Dorset Echo piece tells the story ully. ““There was a real buzz all a ternoon and I am sure that many o them have now become Weymouth ans!”

Until next month let’s keep brin in the noise and start ettin some rewards or the effort bein put in at WFC.

Chairman's Chatter

Hello once a ain and welcome to the February 2023 edition o our monthly newsletter. We have been quite busy and there is plenty to update you on, but first to playin matters! We have had some ood and not so ood results since my last chatter. I think we all so desperately wanted three wins on the bounce or the first time since orever that the nerves ot the better o all o us a ainst Concord Ran ers, players included!

No dis uisin how desperately disappointin it is but we just have to keep oin , stay behind the mana er and players and keep believin we can do this, until we can't!! There were some rumblin s about extendin the mana ers contract, but remember the rationale at the time, which has not chan ed, we need stability as much as we need to stay in this lea ue!

We have to ive Bobby a chance to build his own team or a new season, not try and patch one to ether whilst on the run, ju lin finances and many other thin s as well. As a club, we must try to eed off Bobby's ener y, enthusiasm and commitment to the cause. I know it is a tired cliché but it is very valid ri ht now, to ether we are stron er!

On behal o the ootball club, we have now launched the next instalment o the Hall o Fame.

The next event will be held on Friday 31st March 2023, ahead o our home ame a ainst Eastbourne Borou h the ollowin day. We will be honourin and inductin another our servants o this reat club. There will be a 3 course meal served in the Wessex Loun e and the evenin will be compared by the wonder ully entertainin Ben Ashel ord. We plan to keep you ully en a ed and entertained throu hout with a raffle and ames! Tickets are now on sale at only £35 each.

There are a number o sponsorship opportunities available also, so please et in touch at enquiries@w csa.co.uk or ull details o how to support this vital undraisin event.

Equally, i you or a riend, collea ue or your employers can support us by providin a raffle prize, please do et in touch. We continue to work hard on your behal to help support the ootball club throu h what are provin to be difficult and challen in times. That does not mean we don't stop tryin , but everythin is a challen e and we can always do with more help and support i you are able to ive it?

A ter the request rom Paul Maitland last summer to come up with undraisin ideas, but also with a rider to also see any idea throu h to ruition, Robin Nicholls came up with the idea o the Oily Ra Break ast Club. Normally held on the first Sunday o each month, it is a meetin or motor enthusiasts who can meet up with like minded souls and enjoy a chat over a hot drinks and snacks!

With three events held so ar, it has survived the cold and the wet to emer e hi hly popular and success ul, which is brilliant. As well as puttin the ootball club on the map or a whole new audience, it is raisin vital additional unds as well.

Stats Entertainment…

Thanks to @terrastatman Duncan Gardner or his crunchin o the numbers to ive us a run down o what went well and not so well in 2022.

106 - Goals a ainst

59 - Goals scored

55 - Games played

33 - Losses

31 - Lea ue points

24 - Lon est run without a win

14 - Most oals (Brad Ash)

11 - Wins

11 - Draws

8 - Penalties scored (Ash 6, Goodship, Rose)

5 - Bi est losin mar in (1-6 v Wrexham, 23rd Apr, 0-5 v Altrincham, 8th Mar)

5 - Lon est unbeaten run

5 - Bi est winnin mar in (5-0 v Tonbrid e, 10th Dec)

What is clear is that we had a really tou h year and our rele ation rom the National Lea ue came with some bad score lines and per ormances. A 24 ame run without a win seems like a one in a eneration set o matches. Let’s hope that’s the case.

But it’s not just about the first team, here are some key stats on the Ladies team with another in depth eature on them comin in a uture edition o Terras Times.

Season Top Appearance Makes or WFC Ladies

Emma Potter 13

Grace Billin 12

Nia Bywater 12

Charlie Wilson 12

Shakira Howard 11

Ruby Clark 11

Sophie Bonfield 10

We wish the Ladies well or the rest o the season alon with all o the other teams at the club.
