EDITORIAL - James Warrener

Apolo ies or bein late with the April newsletter, but I hope you will indul e me waitin until a ter last weekend to provide a ull end o season update.

Last Saturday was a special, special day or all involved in Weymouth Football Club. But don’t take my word or it… Bobby Wilkinson provides a review o the season in a quick fire interview.

And just like the Mana ers be ore him who have been part o this newsletter, we ask the hard hittin question o home or away kit? … see what colour Bobby chooses on pa e 4.

We also have Pete Nash, our Chairman and main board representative, ivin his latest update and all o the results rom recent monthly draws and competitions.

I wanted to end this month by echoin all o the plaudits and thanks that have been passed in the direction o some influential people.

First off Paul Maitland and Simon Etherin ton. They stepped up when they were needed and brou ht both clarity and stability to a situation that needed it.

As ans and a Supporters roup, we have a reat chance to make the most o this opportunity and push the club on like never be ore.

I want to thank the players. Each and every one o them. Be they a oalscorer or someone who made the bench without ettin on the park. You all played your part in what will be seen in years to come as an epic campai n.

Finally Bobby and Mike Percival. They arrived when we looked down and out and took us out o the rele ation zone.

We stayed up and that is somethin that should ensure the smile isn’t removed rom the Terras nations ace all summer.

For et Yeovil, Torquay etc. or now… let's enjoy bein Con erence South.

Chairman's Chatter

Goodness me what a difference a month makes! Hello and welcome to the April 2023 edition o your monthly newsletter! Last month, despite my positive outlook on li e and lass hal ull nature, I did not hold out much hope or our survival a ter comin away totally deflated havin surrendered a hal time lead away at Hampton & Richmond.

Victory or them confirmed their survival, or us results had not one our way and we now needed an aw ul lot o help! What can anyone say about what was to ollow other than it was simply incredible to witness!

Sittin bottom o the table with 3 ames to o, we needed to win them all and hope all the teams above us altered in the run in! Whilst the lads put the points on the board, one by one our rivals altered and our superb away win at Taunton meant we went into the final ame away at Dover with our ate in our own hands. A win and we would stay up on oal difference. The scenes at the final whistle were incredible, not unlike winnin a lea ue title! It cannot be underestimated what the achievement means to the club or our next campai n, it is simply immense. We all owe a hu e debt o ratitude to everyone who has helped the club throu h a really difficult time, without them we would not be where we are now.

To Bobby Wilkinson and his coachin team, what can we say? Bobby never once altered, kept believin that he could pull off the reat escape, come what may. His in ectious enthusiasm and positive outlook won throu h and this achievement will orever be part o our history now. Thank you Bobby, Mike, Lee, Jason and Chris, we are orever in your debt.

The next ew months are oin to be really busy or us all. There will be lots o work to do at the Bob Lucas Stadium as there always is durin the early summer months.

The Oily Ra Break ast Club meetin s will continue. We are representin the club at a community expo o the sea ront on 20 May, part o an on oin campai n to project the ootball club out into the community it represents. We want to appeal to the thousands o ootball ans who live in the town and surround borou hs, make them aware they have a ootball team worth backin and to ether, who knows what we can achieve.

There will be lots o announcements in the comin weeks, not least o which will be the season ticket prices or our next campai n. I would ur e all o you readin this to take advanta e i you can o the early bird season ticket which represents value or money in the National Lea ue South.

For ull price season tickets, there will be an option to pay by instalments, another reat initiative. Whilst on the subject o tickets, can I remind everyone that online ticket purchase in advance or each match is o reat benefit to the club as it allows or better plannin re ards numbers and helps to reduce waitin times at the ticket office on match days. I appreciate this has not been our most enjoyable season, apart rom the cup run, there was little or our home supporters to enjoy.

Bobby Wilkinson shares his end o season thou hts

James - Can you condense your eelin s on this season into 3 words

Bobby - Proud man!!! Very proud man

Did you ever wonder what you’d done joinin by leavin Bracknell to join Weymouth?

Never once. Honestly… not once.

Where does this clubs ceilin lie in your view

I only think one ame a time.

Is there any limit to where we can o as a club?

Just take it a ame at a time !

Home or away kit (asked all the Mana ers that)

Home. The colour represents the club and Weymouth FC.

Best player this season? You ave Brad Ash the award

Look, it's a whole team effort. Take the loan players as an example. They took a chance on us and risked ettin a rele ation on their cv. As a Mana er I say the strikers don’t score the oals i someone doesn’t pass them the ball. I would like to say that It's actually a whole o club effort in that re ard.

Do you relax?

Never a moment oes by without thinkin about ootball. When i try to et away rom it I walk the do with my wi e, but we talk about ootball!!!

What’s your messa e or the ans,

Hope ully ood times are comin back to the ootball club and all can play their part.

Ted always asked what was your overall assessment o the ame. So what is your overall assessment o the season?

A special season that will never be or otten in our history. In 20 years time I could see someone rom the club in the street and we would remember bein part o it.

We had Two strikers over 20 oals per season, We made a cup final, we made the FA Cup round 1st proper … there were so many positives that we can look back on now we stayed up.
