December 2022 EDITORIAL - James Warrener With the world cup coming slap bang in the run up to the traditional festive matches, it was a funny period of football this Christmas. One thing that was consistent was the curse of the Manager of the Month, sadly. With a run of form from mid November enough to get us off the bottom of the table, the footballing gods deemed Bobby Wilkinson worthy of the award. But then came the Dulwich defeat in which Tom Bearwish received a red card. We then couldn’t get over the line on Boxing Day in a match which will live long in the memory for a catalogue of missed chances and woodwork clatters which seemed to show that no matter what we tried it was going to be Tauntons day. It’s not like we can look back on an England world cup win either is it? The France game was another example of a team in the ascendancy not converting their chances. However, Wilkinson and his coaches have still done a miraculous job in taking the Terras from being well adrift at the bottom of the table to within sight of the drop zone line. If we can get another run going in the same vein as that which has just ended, there is a real optimism that we could get out of trouble and finish mid-table. Or beyond. But it's one step at a time for me. In the words of the Gaffer… never too high and never too low. Football isn't a project for me, it's a passionate game played by committed individuals. Finally for this month I wanted to say how great it was to see Alex Fletcher back at Bath City for the first time since his horrible accident. I wish him well. James https://www.wfcsa.co.uk/
