Southern Football League Champions 2018/2019
TERRAS TIMES The newsletter of the Weymouth FC Supporters Association
ISSUE 17 Oct/Nov 2019
From the Editors Chair I could copy and paste the first sentence of this newsletter sometimes. “Apologies for the delay in publishing the latest Terras Times, (insert incident here) has delayed me getting around to putting it together”. This month I have been snowed under with a whole host of activities, including starting my training for the 2020 road cycling season, the first round of winter league matches in rugby and various home and garden based shenanigans. That’s without the various bits and bobs the wife and kids are up to. But that’s what makes its great to be a volunteer with this football club. You can dedicate the time you have without reprisal or criticism and that’s why I implore you to read our Chairman Pete Nash’s comments on the second page of this issue. WFC is a great club because of the collective effort. It’s darker times have come during periods of autocratic rule and we are all responsible for protecting and growing what we have. The things that happen on the pitch and the results are only part of what makes a club a community. I might be 250 miles away up country but I still feel part of something and have made friends for life by supporting the club. I never could have imagined what WFC would have given me on that rainy night back in 1992 when I trudged through the puddles and into the Bob Lucas Stadium for the very first time. The year in a paragraph 2019 will go down in history as one of the best years in the recent history of Weymouth FC. Being champions of the Southern League is no mean feat and despite some jitters in the run in, I don’t think many could argue that were worthy winners. This season has started in a similar vein with many predicting we might need to battle in getting to 40 points. All being well we could be there by Christmas!!. What an amazing job Mark Molesley and his coaching team have done with the players. Long may they stay and long may it continue.
James Hall of fame voting a challenge!
WFCSA Website gets a face lift
Voting for your favourite Terra in the Hall of Fame shortlist got even more difficult this year.
The WFCSA website has recently relaunched after a redesign.
The popular competition run by the club sees the website host a number of players from which you can pick one. The top votes gatherers will then be inducted to the Hall of Fame next spring. It was difficult to choose a candidate last time , but this short list sent the Editor off to a darkened room. “How can I pick between a Beaver and a Yeti” he was heard uttering before stomping off.
