TERRAS TIMES The newsletter of the Weymouth FC Supporters Association

ISSUE 14 April 2019

From the Editors Chair Don’t tell me that newsletters are like London Buses, although this is the second in very quick succession after a lengthy hiatus. I write these notes with no finger nails or nerve endings left. We have just lost at Beaconsfield and people I know are already telling me that the time has come for us to “Weymouth it up”...Dorch fans eh? I hope that over the next week or so we can prove them wrong by galvanising as a club and team to get behind the lads and cross the final hurdle to what could be a splendid end to the season. Like most people, including the Gaffer when he appeared on the Non League Show last week, no chickens are being counted here and I want what happened on Saturday to be the spur to get us across the finishing line in the place we all strive to be. Its interesting that as an exile it’s equally as stressful and equally as nerve wracking to be part of this season. My phone takes a hammering as I constantly hit refresh for news and despite not being at the game I lived all of the drama late on with missed penalties and hitting the post. We need them to go in on Saturday. Elsewhere you have to admire the excellent work done off the park this season by the Wessex Fantasy Football, Junior football and Hall of Fame (to name but 3). Whatever happens now these should be roundly celebrated.

James Bob Lucas Stadium Update

Hall of Fame

There will be a new roof covering going on the main stand, the old seats will be replaced, the turnstiles repaired or replaced and the flood lights and associated wiring are gong to be replaced and it is hoped the lights will be LED ones.

The inaugural Hall of Fame evening saw our first 11 players inducted. Each was presented with a memento to commemorate the event along with a lifetime season ticket. A fine gesture by the football club I hope you will agree. The following day we played a home game against Swindon Supermarine and the Football Club had a very special mascot that day in 5 year old Jace Webberley. All profit from programme sales and a bucket collection raised over £1000 which went towards fundraising for Jace to have an operation to help him walk unaided as he suffers from Cerebral Palsey. This was a wonderful gesture by the Football Club and capped of a fine weekend as the Terras secured another 3 points for their promotion push.

This work is essential if we are to obtain a safety certificate from the County Council to continue to hold football matches going into next season. You can also check the club website and socials for a link to vote for a Buildbase grant for the club. The work is scheduled to start in June and be completed prior to the start of pre-season. We will keep you updated.
