“In seeking truth, you have to get both sides of a story.”
— Walter Cronkite
This sentiment captures the essence of journalistic integrity and objectivity—values that Rob Lorei practiced on Florida This Week. After nearly 24 years, Rob Lorei has retired from his role as host. He has been the face of WEDU’s primetime public affairs program, moderating nearly 1,400 episodes and bringing together some of the brightest minds from across the state and country for thoughtful, civil conversations.
I take humble pride in sharing that I hired Rob for this role 24 years ago. Since then, his dedication and leadership have shaped Florida This Week and strengthened WEDU’s commitment to public affairs programming. Beyond the series, he has moderated debates, documentaries, and community discussions, leaving an indelible mark on our station and viewers.
While Rob is stepping away from Florida This Week, you can still see him as he will continue to host Perspectives, a new WEDU series featuring in-depth interviews with notable guests, exploring personal stories, experiences, and perspectives.
Last month, we gathered with former panelists and guests to celebrate Rob’s remarkable legacy. As part of the event, we shared a special video highlighting his contributions, which you can watch at wedu.org/blogs. I know you will enjoy the evolution of Florida This Week and Rob’s impact over the years.
The program continues in its regular time slot with Emmy Award-winning journalist Lissette Campos as the new host. With over 30 years of media experience, including reporting for ABC in Tampa Bay, Lissette is a trusted voice, and we’re excited to welcome her to the program.
We are immensely grateful for all Rob has accomplished for our community, and we look forward to his new chapter with Perspectives.
As always, I welcome your feedback and ideas for insightful guests for Perspectives. Feel free to reach out to me at paulgrove@wedu.org.
