A Message from Paul Grove

Dear Friends of WEDU PBS,

A new year invites reflection and resolve: reflecting on the progress we’ve made and resolving to aim even higher. As I think about 2024, I’m inspired by the creativity and dedication that defined WEDU PBS’s work. It was a year of remarkable accomplishments made possible by your generous support. Now, as we look to the year ahead, I’m excited to share what’s next for WEDU and the impact we can achieve together.

Your unwavering commitment is the foundation that enables WEDU to deliver award-winning local programming that educates, inspires, and fosters lifelong learning and discovery. In 2024, this commitment led to tremendous milestones.

We were honored with six Suncoast Regional Emmy® nominations from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a testament to our dedication to exceptional storytelling. I am proud to share that WEDU earned four Emmy® Awards for short-form videos featured in our digital and on-air series, Greater St. Petersburg. This series celebrates local people and places through intimate, immersive storytelling, showcasing the strength and beauty of our community.

These achievements reflect the dedication of our talented storytellers and the collective efforts of our entire WEDU staff. Equally important is the philanthropic support of donors like you. Your contributions make it possible for us to produce impactful, locally focused programs. To watch the Emmy-winning productions, please visit wedu.org/emmy2024

Looking ahead to 2025, we are thrilled to bring you an outstanding lineup of programs, including three compelling new documentaries:

• Good Natured: Premiering on February 27, WEDU filmmaker Ashley Stokes explores Florida’s stunning wild spaces and meets extraordinary individuals dedicated to conservation and innovation, revealing how nature can inspire solutions and solace.

• Our Vanishing Americana: Florida: Airing this spring, this program highlights the essence of Florida’s Main Street culture, weaving together short stories of unique characters and landmarks across the state.

• When the Righteous Triumph: Scheduled for the fall, this documentary tells the story behind Mark E. Leib’s play of the same name that premieres at the Straz Center’s Jaeb Theater in March and examines Florida’s pivotal role in the civil rights movement, focusing on the 1960 sit-in protests in Tampa.

As we begin this new year, I am grateful for your dedication and enthusiasm for WEDU’s mission. Together, we will continue to make a meaningful impact in our community.

As always, I welcome your comments and feedback. Feel free to contact me at paulgrove@wedu.org.
