A Message from Paul Grove

Dear Friends of WEDU PBS,

You may have heard recent discussions in Washington about eliminating federal funding for public media. Unfortunately, that effort is already underway. If these cuts move forward, they could eliminate essential services that WEDU and PBS stations across the country provide to our communities every day.

As the stepson of a career Navy submariner, I spent my childhood on military bases in Guam, Japan, Korea, and the Philippines. Those early years shaped my understanding of service and the importance of using resources wisely. Every dollar counted then, and it still does today, especially here at WEDU.

That same principle guides our work. We take our responsibility seriously and manage resources with great care. Nearly 75 percent of every dollar we receive is invested directly in programming and educational services. For the past nine years, WEDU has earned the highest rating from Charity Navigator for transparency and accountability.

To put things in perspective, the total federal investment in all public media amounts to about $1.50 per citizen annually. That’s a modest sum to help sustain one of the most trusted institutions in the country year after year.

At WEDU, federal support accounts for just over 12 percent of our funding. Thanks to the generosity of donors like you, we are strong and prepared. Still, the federal share plays a vital role in the work we do.

As we recognize Memorial Day this month, I want to thank those of you who have served—and let you know I value your service and learned my lessons well in my military family. WEDU will remain strong and focused on serving the needs of our community. We will adapt as the landscape evolves and continue to uphold the values of service, safety, education, and trust that your contributions make possible.

Now is the time to speak up. Please visit wedu.org/protect to contact your Members of Congress and urge them to continue bipartisan support for public broadcasting.

Together, we can keep WEDU strong for generations to come.

Thank you for standing with us!

MANY WAYS TO GIVE

Support WEDU Through

Your Donor Advised Fund

Donor advised funds (or DAFs) can be thought of as a savings account for philanthropic giving. Many people opt to use donor advised funds as a financial planning tool at the guidance of their financial advisors because it gives you the ability to make a tax-deductible gift into your donor advised fund in the current year, which you can save over many years to then make one transformational gift to a nonprofit in the near future.

Just as regular savings accounts are helpful when you are saving up for a special treat, donor advised funds are a wonderful way to make a special impact on WEDU’s mission to educate, explore, and engage to inspire a lifetime of learning and discovery.

Donor advised funds are hosted through many providers:

• Local community foundations, like our friends at the Community Foundation Tampa Bay, Community Foundation of Sarasota County, Pinellas Community Foundation, Manatee Community Foundation, or Gulf Coast Community Foundation.

• Other nonprofit partners, like the Tampa Orlando Pinellas (TOP) Jewish Foundation or the National Christian Foundation.

• A financial institution, like Raymond James Charitable, Fidelity Charitable, or DAFgiving360 (formerly Schwab Charitable).

Giving to WEDU PBS from your donor advised fund is easy; simply request that your plan administrator make a distribution to WEDU PBS. Often donor advised fund administrators will ask for:

• WEDU’s tax ID, #59-0840626,

• Our address: 1300 N Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33607

For more information visit wedugiving.org and search DAF. For questions or further assistance, call 813-739-2959 or email giving@wedu.org.
