A Message from Paul Grove
Dear Friends of WEDU PBS,
“ “
Board of Directors
All of us, at some time or other, need help. Whether we’re giving or receiving help, each one of us has something valuable to bring to this world. That’s one of the things that connects us as neighbors—in our own way, each one of us is a giver and a receiver.
— Fred Rogers
The past two months have been challenging for many as we navigate the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton. I hope you and your loved ones are safe and that life is gradually returning to normal. I want you to know that I understand the difficulties many of you are facing during this time.
Throughout these storms, the WEDU PBS team has been unwavering in delivering vital emergency information, working before, during, and after the hurricanes. By utilizing the Florida Public Radio Emergency Network, we were able to share essential hurricane preparation resources and real-time updates across our broadcast, digital, and social media platforms.
Despite widespread power outages affecting over three million people in Florida, WEDU remained on air, providing uninterrupted broadcasting when our community needed it most. Our post-storm initiatives have been equally impactful, including:
• A one-hour Florida This Week hurricane special, which provided recovery resources and crucial information for those affected.
• Additional segments discussing essential topics such as homeowner’s insurance and the impact of hurricanes on real estate values.
• A special tribute spot to first responders and neighbors who have played a vital role in rebuilding our communities.
In addition to these efforts, we’ve partnered with Feeding Tampa Bay on a food drive to collect non-perishable food and cleaning supplies for families affected by the storms. Our team also collaborated with Tampa Theatre to host “Community Comfort” events for families without power and whose children were out of school. These free events provided a place for residents to recharge, connect, and access valuable resources, with PBS KIDS programming on the big screen and fun activities for children.
As our community rebuilds, WEDU remains committed to supporting Gulf Coast recovery efforts with timely information, resources, and the comforting presence of PBS programming. Thank you for your continued support, and please feel free to reach out with your thoughts or feedback by emailing paulgrove@wedu.org.
Onward and upward,

Happy Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is a meaningful day for young children and families. Special traditions, family gatherings, and big meals are staples of the holiday.
Many families also have traditions of volunteering and giving back to the community. This year, consider encouraging young children to practice thankfulness, to help build empathy and encourage kids to think about all the people who help them every day.
