ABOUT

The Good Girl Project, founded by BeverlyRobinson, has a mission to uplift and support women and girls in underserved communities. Founder, Beverly, is a passionate advocate for youth and women concerning issues saturating our news today such as human trafficking, domestic violence and the foster care challenges. Inspired by her work in the social services field, the birth of the Good Girl Project is an extension of her lifelong commitment to change.

The genesis of the Good Girl Project can be traced back, like most organizations, to a group of like-minded people with a deep desire to make a true difference in their community and beyond. "It all began with a simple conversation among friends," Beverly said. "We recognized the challenges faced by women and girls in our communities, and we knew we had to do something about it."

Driven by a collective sense of purpose, Beverlyand her friends embarked on their new journey. One cornerstone of the organization is a deep commitment to listening to the stories of those they seek to empower and giving other women a safe, warm place to share both their struggles and their dreams.

Through tireless efforts and unwavering dedication, The Good Girl Project, as you may recognize it today, was formed: a platform where women and girls can find crucial support, resources, and a sense of belonging. "We wanted to create a space where every woman and girl feels valued, heard, and empowered to pursue their dreams," Beverly explained.

At the heart of the Good Girl Project lies a commitment to fostering sisterhood and solidarity. Through initiatives ranging from mentorship programs to educational workshops, they empower women and girls to embrace their potential and pursue their aspirations with confidence, regardless of what their dreams entail. Beverly's diverse background as a Beauty Coach and Branding Consultant supports women in stepping into their external beauty while her social services background supports women in finding their voice and their internal beauty as well.

My journey toward uplifting women began from personal experiences that deeply affected me. I was bullied in middle school and am a survivor of domestic abuse. These painful chapters of my life sparked my passion for empowering women, a commitment that started in my 20”s and remains strong. The harsh reality is that too many women are told they are unworthy, incapable, or ill-equipped. But this is a false narrative. We are worthy, we are capable, and we will succeed.

You are famed for stating you shouldn't judge another woman until you walk a mile in her stilettos. This message is more crucial than ever in the age of social media. Where did your initial interest in uplifting women begin?

Followers and likes on social media do not measure anyone’s worth. Sometimes, social media can be distracting, telling us to be something that we are not – to act a certain way or assimilate in situations that aren’t aligned with our purpose. Remember, you are an eagle. Soar above the fray, with your eyes on broader horizons and goals. Eagles don't concern themselves with the chatter and commotion of ducks making a lot of noise; they focus on their path and embrace their strength.

As the Founder Emerita of Dress for Success Columbus, you built a women’s empowerment movement to help women succeed in work and life. I'm sure you have several touching stories-- but share one memory or moment that has imprinted on your heart.

The powerful safe space we created at Dress for Success and the sisterhood we nurtured has left a deep imprint on my heart. Building trust, and welcoming women from every background, transforming our differences into bridges, not barriers is life changing. Seeing every woman, whether she’s a client, volunteer, donor, board member, or staff, step into her purpose and thrive is incredibly moving and forever lives in my soul.

The mission is one of really seeing one another, a place of belonging and equality, where everyone has value. This experience has taught me immeasurable lessons about resilience, compassion, and the power of community. Like the quote from Michelle Obama: "There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish." Wherever we are in the world, we can learn from one another, put our limiting beliefs aside and grow together, we can create a future where every woman is empowered to become her best self. When you help another woman shine, it does not take away from your light, it only magnifies our collective brilliance. And we need that brilliance now, more than ever.

Civic Engagement

I’m a Daughter, a Sister, a Mom (to a son and a fur baby), and a Wife who’s rooted in my faith. I’m a purpose-driven servant leader continually striving to operate at my highest self for the greater good. Advancing social justice keeps me up at night. I’d rather do what is right than do what is easy. I’m a devoted friend and confidante. I love yoga because it grounds me. I love reading, traveling, and learning about the world and different cultures. I have a life-long love affair with shoes, and I can never say no to pizza.

How do you believe a woman's dress impacts her self-confidence, self-trust, and success?

The way a woman dresses can really boost her confidence, but it's super personal and different for everyone. It's all about loving yourself first and dressing in a way that feels true to you. What you wear should make you feel good and show off your own style. Remember, dressing yourself up on the inside is the most important key to shining on the outside. So, wear what makes you happy and don't worry about the rest. It's your style, your rules!

Every woman has a "secret weapon" for confidence. What piece of clothing or item helps to instill feelings of confidence in moments of doubt?

For two decades, I've adorned myself with a small antique pocket watch, suspended on a gold chain around my neck. This watch, a token of appreciation presented to my great-grandfather for his community service during the 1918 pandemic, serves as a constant reminder of his legacy and the significance of dedicating oneself to the greater good. Its symbolic purpose only deepened for me during the Covid-19 crisis.

3 Tips to Blossom Into Your Greatness

1.

Know Your Worth: Recognize and affirm your value beyond external validation. Practice self-reflection to understand your unique strengths and contributions. Set aside time each week to jot down achievements, however small, and areas where you've made a positive impact.

3.

Find Your Tribe: Leadership can indeed be a solitary journey, but it's crucial to find strength in your individuality. We were each created uniquely for a divine purpose. Seek out and create a diverse support network of allies who understand your challenges and can provide diverse perspectives. Find a mentor who aligns with your values and will hold you accountable, or join a peer-support group where you can share experiences and strategies openly.

2. Get Comfortable Being Uncomfortable: Step out of your comfort zone regularly to foster growth and resilience. Take on projects that challenge you, seek feedback actively, and embrace failure as a learning opportunity. Invest in continuous learning whether through group workshops or 1:1 coaching to further your skills and reach higher.

I'm on an ever-evolving journey of learning and growth, and I'm filled with gratitude for each step. Although I’ll always be the grateful founder of Dress for Success, it’s been 5 years since I passed the baton of leadership, and it fills my heart with joy to see the mission thriving in its next chapter of empowering women. Recently, I ventured anew by launching a purpose-driven consulting and coaching firm with a trusted business partner. Our mission to lift leaders, amplify their missions, and make a tangible impact is incredibly rewarding. I'm thrilled to be in this vibrant phase of life, channeling my journey into positive change and empowerment in a whole new way. If you're curious about how we can collaborate and advance equity for all, I warmly invite you to reach out and connect with me on LinkedIn.

Barbara Freeman

The Freeman house is a place where adult women survivors can live while they begin to transition to independent living. We aspire to provide a home environment that is free from judgment, encouraging growth, and inspiring women to thrive.

In the Spring of 2017, Barbara Freeman, Founder of the Freeman Project, worked in collaboration with Authentic Life Ministries to open this sober home for women who have experienced sex-trafficking or who are vulnerable to exploitation.

The home was remodeled and furnished thanks to the generous support of volunteers. The home has four bedrooms, one room for our “house-mom” who lives on site, two single occupancy rooms, and one room set up for 2 residents.

After in-patient rehabilitation treatment services, women in recovery often do not have a safe place to shelter while they prepare to live independently. The Freeman Project Home provides a safe place and support during that pivotal transition time. We often help women get documentation, sign up for state benefits, connect with local social support agencies and find long-term housing.

It is the mission of The Freeman House to provide survivor-informed care and build authentic and lasting relationships. Our program provides adult women with temporary housing, basic necessities, life skills, and career opportunities.

Our goal is to empower the women of The Freeman Project to become SurThrivers and contributing members of our community!

The Freeman Project is a non-profit organization in Columbus, Ohio. It was founded by Barbara Freeman, a survivor of sex trafficking. Her lived experience of exiting “the life” she knew for 23 years, gives her a unique perspective on providing help to others who are similarly struggling. Her activism in the anti-human trafficking community in Central Ohio has led to personal connections with providers and agencies and intimate knowledge of the resources they can provide.

Cecilia Ward Mental Health

Life can be unpredictable. However, I've learned that when you discover your purpose, during the uncertainty, it shapes your life. So, due to some severe trauma in my life, I had reached the point in which I was ashamed of my reality. In my shame, I didn't know how to share my feelings of being emotionally unstable or mentally unbalanced with anyone. It was out of this uncertainty and shame my purpose for being a Mental Wellness Educator was birthed...of course God was in the midst of all of it. Out of my obedience to tell my story in written form and on different speaking platforms my shame was removed.

What inspired you to become a voice for mental wellness-- a field that is often deeply misunderstood and deeply stigmatized?

I myself battle Bipolar, Anxiety Disorder and Depression. So, I wanted people to know that this doesn't have to define who you are or stop you from reaching your life's purpose. I wanted others to not be ashamed of seeking help and working with a healthcare professional to get to a place where you can manage everyday life.

Through your writings and advocacy work, you open conversations around mental health. How do you approach destigmatizing mental illness within your local, as well as online, communities? Creating safe spaces for discussion is crucial-- how do you seek to create those?

I approach it with boldness. I believe that when I share my story others can relate and when they see the success that I have had in my life they too can understand that it is obtainable.

You see, I didn't want to just talk about depression and anxiety, I wanted to tackle something big that I had trouble accepting. That big thing was Bipolar. I understood that I couldn't get rid of it, after sitting with it for months, but I didn't want to accept it. No one told me after the diagnosis how to deal with my emotions. Since, I have been able to learn through my ups and downs, I felt that I can share those things with others. I think creating a safe space means gaining the trust of others by being vulnerable, by sharing the unspoken, by talking about how you missed it and how you were successful. Once you gain trust, people will be more willing to open up to you about their struggles. This has been my experience.

The mental health journey is often very personal. Sharing your own experiences can be incredibly vulnerable, yet valuable, to your followers and community. Why do you believe sharing our own, authentic triumphs and tribulations with mental health changes narratives? What impact have you witnessed in sharing your story?

I believe that sharing about the triumphs and tribulations with mental health changes the narratives, because people can then relate and hopefully seek help. I have had people call me, inbox me or catch me after a speaking engagement to talk to me about themselves or their loved ones. They thanked me for being vulnerable and opening up about what I live with daily. I have spoken with people who have said, you told my story and I didn't think anyone would ever understand what I was going through.

People have committed to going to counseling and being open to taking medication. Because these things have happened, it is a reminder that I am walking in God's purpose for my life. One of the greatest moments was when someone connected me with someone who was suffering from Bipolar. I was able to share my story with them and listen to theirs. The person at the end of our conversation let me know that they were thinking about taking their life, but due to their conversation with me they felt like they could keep on living. These stories and interactions are how I know I am within my purpose.

God told me when I wrote my book that it was never about money, it was about touching the lives of individuals to help take the stigma and shame off of the word mental illness. I will never be silenced and never ever be ashamed, I have come too far and I know it's not about me.

Social media can be a double-edged sword. How do you navigate the potential triggers and pitfalls of online platforms while still using them as a tool for positive change?

I really don't think about my online platform as being a pitfall, I have only had positive experiences when I tell my story about my mental health journey. I guess the fear of getting backlash has never crossed my mind, because I think that the message meant to help someone else. I really don't even think about the shame anymore and maybe that is why I don't have a fear of the pitfalls of social media.

What tangible tips and strategies would you share with someone seeking self-soothing mechanisms for mental health? What practices do you utilize?

First of all, praying and reading my word keeps me grounded, along with taking my medication daily. Things such as working out and meditation are two things that I think are also big self-soothing mechanisms for mental health. I practice a few things, I already mentioned keeping grounded in God, but I believe in structure. Structure helps me to stay focused and not get overwhelmed. Other things I do is positive selftalk, especially when I am feeling anxious. One of my biggest depression tips is to commit to doing 1 thing daily when you feel depressed. That is even something as small as getting off the couch to make a cup of tea or walking around your house for 2 mins. Anything to get you off the couch or out of the bed for any length of time.

Anxiety Disorder can be crippling, but a doctor once gave me the best advice, he told me to go lay down in a dark room. Stay there until the anxiety episode passes and then get up to resume whatever you were doing. If

Despite the ominous shadows cast over my health, I chose to trust my physician's assurances that shedding weight would suffice. Little did I know this decision would lead me down a path fraught with unforeseen consequences.

Fast forward to the year 2020, and my health took a perilous nose dive. Manifestations of jaundiced skin, incessant itching, and discolored urine propelled me into a frantic race to the doctor's office. There, bloodwork unveiled a grim reality: my liver enzymes were off the charts. Emergency surgery peeled back the layers of deception, revealing the malignant truth—the supposedly benign tumors had morphed into agents of stage 4 cancer, casting a shadow of despair over my life.

Yet, amidst the engulfing darkness, a flicker of hopeignited within me. Despite the belated awakening, I resolved to embrace ahealthier lifestyle, determined to wrestle back control of my destiny. Againstall odds, my quarterly MRIs delivered a surprising narrative—tumors shrinkingagainst the backdrop of medical skepticism. For me, this transcends the realmof mere medicine; it is a testament to the power of faith and the unwaveringsupport of my loved ones, including my husband Ronald Phillips and my sons.

My story serves as a testament to the indomitable spirit residing within each of us, urging us to rise above adversity and seize control of our destinies. I am a native of Columbus, Ohio. I am who I am today in my life span development. To name a few, my parents did a phenomenal job rearing me and bringing me up in the training and the admonition of the Lord. They inspired my siblings and I to give back to the those in need, because it’s more blessed to give than to receive. My mother is my Shero. Next on the list is my loving handsome husband, Apostle Joel Sanders. He has pushed me, persuaded me, and encouraged me, to pursue my dreams and never give up. He is my #1 supporter and one of the many contributing factors to where I am today.

Art is a beautiful way to express your soul. What drives your creative process? Where do you derive and draw your inspiration for all of your creative and artistic endeavours?

Creative people spend a great deal of time quietly reflecting and thinking. This is the perfect time for me to cultivate new ideas and strategies and tap into my creative side. That being said, having confidence in my own work and learning not to compare myself to others drives my creative process. Once I avoid putting myself into a box of perfection and people’s prison, I feel free to try new things and have creative ideas. I derive and draw my inspiration for all of my creative and artistic endeavours from social media, magazines, podcasts, TV, mentors, from individuals who are where I desire to be, and the list goes on.

Your engagement in community projects and events is evident. Share with us how your involvement in these initiatives impacts both you and your community. Does service impact your artistic work?

Community contribution is what I was created to do! I enjoy helping those who are unable to help themselves. My involvement in initiatives enriches my life, familiarize me with the community, connects me to people, helps me to grow as a person, better understand how I fit into the world around me, and foster new ideas that will positively impact my perspective for the rest of my life.

Beauty & Fashion

Service impacts my artistic work in that I use my cosmetic line as a door to inspire girls and women who struggle with self-esteem and insecurity issues, to stop hiding behind the lipstick, foundation, and mascara and take care of their mental health and realize that when God created them, He created His best.

Via your Instagram, you state that you are a Wellness Coach. Where did your initial interest in Wellness begin? How, and why, do you believe that wellness is the cornerstone of a truly fulfilling life? How have you embraced wellness in your own life?

My initial interest in wellness begin in 2011. During that time, I was in Los Angeles, California celebrating my wedding anniversary with my husband. We stopped by one of the clothing stores on Rodeo Drive and I experienced the most embarrassing moment of my life.

During that time, I was a size 18/20. I saw a pair of pants I admired and asked the clerk if he had my size. He started laughing and said the biggest size he had was a 10 and every store on Rodeo Drive. I was embarrassed, humiliated, frustrated, and upset because of what the clerk said. My vacation was ruined and I was ready to return to Ohio to adopt a healthy lifestyle. After crossing many valleys, I exhaled excuses and breathed in self-control, determination, and motivation and lost over 100 pounds in 4 1⁄2 months with not surgeries or supplements.

Wellness is a cornerstone of a truly fulfilling life in that we only get one body and if we do not take care of ourselves than we will be unable to fulfill our destiny in life.

I have embraced wellness in my life in that I push myself daily to practice self-care. SelfCare is near and dear to me because I worked a job that was stressful and did not have time to do anything for myself. Self-Care is essential to our mental, spiritual, and physical well-being. That being said, I believe in practicing a healthy lifestyle, which encompasses working out at least 30 minutes per day and having a healthy diet.

What advice would you give to aspiring artists or creatives who may be facing their own obstacles and doubts along their paths? How did you overcome common troubles such as imposter syndrome or self-doubt to bring your work to the world?

Advice I would give an aspiring artists or creatives is to have self-confidence, learn from failures and mistakes, set goals and crush them. No matter how hard it gets, “Don’t Give Up.” I overcame imposter syndrome and self-doubt by believing and understanding myself, my strengths, and identifying areas for improvement. Additionally, I practiced positive self-talk to counter stinking thinking and recognized when imposter feelings or thoughts arise.

In order to breathe empowerment into your life, I would encourage you to practice selfcare, start that business, write the book, connect with others, practice positive self-talk, avoid negative thinking, surround yourself with positive people, set short-term and longterm goals and achieve them, practice gratitude, and do something you love.

Many women suffer in silence and try to fight battles on their own and drown in depression, debt, and disappointment. That being said, on September 21, 2024, we will have our 3rd Annual Get Up Win Holistic Wellness International Encounter. Woohoo!! This is an opportunity for women to come together and learn tools and techniques to propel them into the next dimension of life spiritually, emotionally, financially, and physically.

I am passionate about bringing people together and creating a positive and enjoyable atmosphere. I believe that every event, big or small, should be a special occasion that leaves a lasting impression on attendees.

In my career, I have gained experience in event planning and management, ensuring that every detail is taken care of and that the event runs smoothly. I take pride in my ability to think creatively and come up with unique ideas to make each event stand out.

Outside of work, family is extremely important to me. Spending quality time with my two children is a top priority, as they bring so much joy and happiness to my life. Whether it's going on adventures, playing games, or simply enjoying a movie night at home, I cherish these moments with them.

Additionally, I find solace in nature and find the beach to be a place of tranquility. Listening to the soothing sound of the ocean waves crashing against the shore helps me unwind and rejuvenate. It allows me to reflect on life and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us.

Overall, my goal is to continue creating unforgettable experiences for clients and guests while balancing my personal life and finding happiness in the simple pleasures of life.

In the heart of every journey lies a purpose, a calling that echoes through the corridors of fate, guiding us to places we never thought we'd tread and people we never thought we'd meet. That calling came in the form of a 17year-old girl, a victim of the vile scourge of human trafficking. That encounter came with a phone call. When a co-worker sought aid for the girl, her voice was laden with concern as she relayed the girl's tale. Trafficked since the tender age of 15, her innocence had been stolen, her spirit battered and broken by the cruelties of this world.

As she quietly asked for food, I couldn't help but notice the rawness of her need, the desperation in her face. Without a second thought, I assured her she could take as much as she wanted. But it wasn't until she turned towards the wall adorned with flowers that something shifted within her. Her eyes, once clouded with pain, now held a glimmer of something else. With a hesitant voice, she asked if she could have some flowers. In that moment, it was as if those delicate flowers held the power to awaken something dormant within her, to momentarily transport her away from the darkness that had engulfed her life.

"Take as many as you want," I told her. As she carefully plucked each flower from the wall, a faint smile came to her lips, a rare sight from the hurt that she had gone through. As she left, I felt a whisper of something greater than myself, a gentle reminder that even in the midst of despair, there is still light to be found.

In the quiet moments that followed, amidst the chaos of everyday life, I heard a whisper, a divine directive that set my course ablaze. I realized that this was my calling. To stand as a guardian for the voiceless, to champion their cause and mend their shattered dreams.

Thus, Your Journey’s Worth was born—a sanctuary for the broken, a fortress against the tides of exploitation. With unwavering resolve, I will embark on a mission to shine light into the darkest corners of humanity, to uplift those who had been cast aside by society.

At YJW, the mission was clear: to heighten awareness, to heal wounds, and to pave the path towards a brighter tomorrow. Through tireless advocacy and unwavering dedication, I and my team will fight tirelessly to provide refuge for the victims of human trafficking and homelessness.

But even as we forged ahead, a new challenge emerged—a pandemic that threatened to engulf the world in darkness once more. With funding dwindling and resources stretched thin, the road ahead seemed daunting.

Yet, in the face of adversity, hope endured. United in purpose, the community rallied behind YJW, offering their support and their strength in the battle against injustice. Together, we will weather the storm, emerging stronger and more determined than ever before.

Through our efforts, lives were transformed, futures rewritten, and families reunited. Where once there was despair, there bloomed a garden of resilience, a testament to the indomitable human spirit.

And so, the story of Your Journey’s Worth continues to unfold—a tale of courage, compassion, and unwavering determination. For in the heart of every journey lies a purpose, and in the hands of those who dare to dream, lies the power to change the world.
