Between her second and third years, biology major Reema Moussa began working in a chemistry/biochemistry lab through the Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge.
“The research took a commonly used Alzheimer’s drug and altered it slightly to target brain cancer cells. The best part was that the compounds we developed in the lab killed brain cancer cells at a significant rate. That was just such an amazing experience because this could lead to medicine that will target those brain cancer cells while not harming healthy human cells.”

Admitted students are automatically considered for a merit scholarship based on a full review of their comprehensive University of Tulsa application. The priority scholarship deadline is Feb. 1. Applicants who submit a complete admission file after Feb. 1 are considered for meritbased scholarship funding based on availability. Renewal is contingent upon full-time enrollment.
To be considered for scholarship opportunities during your time at UTulsa, you must be admitted prior to August 1 for fall admission and prior to December 1 for spring admission.
State, federal and institutional grants are based on need and, like scholarships, do not need to be repaid. Grant amounts can vary and may include a Federal Pell Grant. Students must file the FAFSA to be considered for need-based grants.
Federal work-study programs offer subsidized part-time employment on and off campus for students who qualify. Institutional jobs are offered by offices around the university that need additional employees.
Your financial aid award may include student loans, some of which may be interest-free while you attend college. Although loans must be repaid, interest rates are low and the terms are generally far more favorable than loans available commercially. Payments may be deferred or forgiven based on certain conditions set by the federal government.
The University of Tulsa is pleased to award admitted National Merit Semifinalists its highest academic scholarship, the National Merit Semifinalist Package. UTulsa recognizes the outstanding academic success of National Merit Semifinalists and believes these students will have a remarkable impact on campus life.
To receive the National Merit Semifinalist full-ride package, students must apply and be admitted to The University of Tulsa by Feb. 1. An admission interview is required to complete the application process. Students must have an official campus visit by May 1.
