SUPPORT SUPPORT EXPERIENCE WRAPAROUND
Peer mentors serve as guides and catalysts for new students. They bring a wide range of knowledge about campus organizations, co-curricular activities, cultural encounters, and academic excellence. New students meet their peer mentors over the summer via email, texts, GroupMe or Zoom. Those same peer mentors host TU’s three-day orientation before classes begin in August and are then embedded with first-year students each week. Peer mentors stay in touch with new students throughout their first year of college to answer questions, connect them with resources, and offer friendly guidance through the challenges of the college transition.
At TU, students are matched with success coaches who assist them in an academic advisor capacity to choose their degree path and enroll in courses. Success coaches also identify barriers that could hinder students’ success and then develop action plans that provide accountability to enhance their TU experience.
