There is a lot to see beyond campus, and TU offers students an exceptional foundation that provides the knowledge and confidence necessary to travel to new lands and find value in cultures unlike their own. College is about making connections and expanding your heart and mind. At The University of Tulsa, we are experts in supporting your journey — wherever it leads.

JumpstartTU is a one-week international experience held the summer before first year that is integrated with your FirstYear Experience course (FYE-1001) and designed to serve as an introduction to TU’s academic and campus life through a transformative, intensive program abroad.

RACHEL HAMEL, Guatemala Nursing

“My time in Guatemala opened my eyes to how significant primary care is. I worked alongside the doctor and the clinic staff assessing patients, creating an inventory system for medications and hosting educational sessions for the communities.”

MARGARET LAPRARIE, Germany Art, Culture and Entertainment Management

“I don’t think there are enough words to describe what an amazing experience this was for me, or how grateful I am that I was able to have it. I felt the most incredible sense of freedom by traveling around Europe alone.”

JEFF LUONG, South Korea Computer Science

“I could not recommend Seoul enough. The food is great, and studying is very enjoyable here. I’m honestly very sad that I have to leave soon and this experience is making me look into the future to find another opportunity to live here again.”

IYAN SMITH WILLIAMS, Colombia

Mathematics and Spanish (International Science and Language program)

“Study abroad provides learning experiences that you cannot quite get in the classroom alone. It encourages students to be open-minded, flexible and eager to build connections with people from other backgrounds - all important qualities in being a successful and thoughtful global citizen today.”

JOSHUA BOYLE, Senegal Economics and French

“My time abroad taught me about other countries, peoples, and cultures, and about who I am and my place in this world. Living far from home was not always easy, as I was frequently pushed out of my comfort zone but doing so has shaped me in important ways.”

ETHAN SMITH, Egypt Mechanical Engineering

“As a mechanical engineering major, I face the common misconception the STEM students cannot study abroad and stay on track with graduation, but I found this not to be true. In addition to taking the same engineering coursework I would have at TU, I worked as an undergraduate research assistant and participated in extracurricular activities.”
