ADRIAN MELTON hit the ground running as a psychology student with her studies in historical trauma. She credits her “amazing mentors” Professor Lisa Cromer in the Psychology Department and Professor Kristen Oertel in the History Department with helping her realize her dream of doing interdisciplinary research as an undergrad. “The possibilities are endless here at UTulsa, and I never would have imagined a small-town girl like me would graduate college at 20 years old and immediately go on to a Ph.D. program in clinical psychology.”

MARK GEISZ pursued a cutting-edge project designed to reduce the risk of balance-related injuries for military personnel. Under the supervision of Associate Professor of Athletic Training/ Exercise Sports Roger Kollock, they worked with subjects who performed a series of jumps and landings while wearing tactical gear, then measured their balance recovery.
The Honors College offers academically gifted and motivated students an exceptional and accelerated liberal arts curriculum, focused on the study of classic texts, in a vibrant intellectual community that fosters friendship, growth in excellent habits of mind and character, and service to the common good.
Honors students ask one another big questions at the heart of human existence, such as: What are truth, beauty, and goodness? What makes a good human being and citizen? At the heart of the Honors core curriculum, these questions serve as a foundation for a student’s coursework within their major. To graduate with Honors, students complete the Honors curriculum, defend an Honors thesis or project, and participate in community service.
Honors College students receive a $2,000 scholarship that is renewable every year, depending on continued eligibility.
CAMPBELL ECKHARDT credits his research success at The University of Tulsa to a nurturing environment, from admission to leadership — including President Brad Carson and Honors College Dean Jennifer Frey. His involvement spans from the Honors College Student Advisory Board to Early Careers in Medicine, alongside significant biochemistry lab work, aiming for a future in chemical biology and drug discovery from natural sources.
Undergraduate research is a way of life in our high-tech labs and classrooms, where faculty members know your name and offer a guiding hand. University of Tulsa research isn’t limited to science or engineering; it’s encouraged among literature scholars and future CEOs.
In addition to UTulsa’s well-equipped labs, many of our research projects have evolved into centers and institutes, such as the Oklahoma Cyber Innovation Institute and Oklahoma Center for the Humanities, where researchers engage in theoretical and practical, in-depth, and long-term study. Discovery is a lifelong pursuit at the heart of what we do at TU.
Reema Moussa, chemistry
Between her second and third years, biology major Reema Moussa began working in a chemistry/biochemistry lab through Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge. “The research took a commonly used Alzheimer’s drug and altered it slightly to target brain cancer cells. The best part was that the compounds we developed in the lab killed brain cancer cells at a significant rate. That was just such an amazing experience because this could lead to medicine that will target those brain cancer cells while not harming healthy human cells.”
Andrew Gray, math and history
Andrew Gray examined the intersection of poverty and research and development across several countries. “Thanks to the TU Scholars program, I learned how to complete research and projects that combined my majors in applied mathematics and history as well as minors in economics and general engineering. I completed a research paper that had policy implications on how to help both the middle class and people in poverty. I was also able to tie it to my future law career.”
There is a lot to see beyond campus, and The University of Tulsa offers students an exceptional foundation that provides the knowledge and confidence necessary to travel to new lands and find value in cultures unlike their own. College is about making connections and expanding your heart and mind. At UTulsa, we are experts in supporting your journey — wherever it leads.
JumpstartTU is a one-week international experience held the summer before first year that is integrated with your First-Year Experience course (FYE-1001) and designed to serve as an introduction to UTulsa’s academic and campus life through a transformative, intensive program abroad.

Peer mentors serve as guides and catalysts for new students. They bring a wide range of knowledge about campus organizations, co-curricular activities, cultural encounters, and academic excellence.
New students meet their peer mentors over the summer via email, texts, GroupMe, or Zoom. Those same peer mentors host UTulsa’s threeday orientation before classes begin in August and are then embedded with first-year students each week. Peer mentors stay in touch with new students throughout their first year of college to answer questions, connect them with resources, and offer friendly guidance through the challenges of the college transition.
At UTulsa, students are matched with success coaches who assist them in an academic advisor capacity in choosing their degree path and enrolling in courses. Success coaches also identify barriers that could hinder students’ success and then develop action plans that provide accountability to enhance their University of Tulsa experience.
The TU Scholars Program combines two or more areas of academic focus, uniting the deep thought and humanistic inquiry of the liberal arts with strong technical, clinical, or professional skills. The TU Scholar experience prepares students for a broad range of careers and develops the cognitive flexibility required to adapt to a changing global environment.
Students who are interested in adding the TU Scholar experience to their academic journey should consult their student success coach.
• Student-centered interdisciplinary collaboration
• Intellectual and social community
• Better career outcomes
Addressing complex issues requires critical thinking and interdisciplinary problem-solving. The TU Scholars program is designed to create a learning environment where students think beyond their chosen fields of study and approach real-world problems with unique and dynamic perspectives that allow for outside-the-box innovation.
