Pain And how to fight it Bart Morlion One in five people suffer from chronic pain An international expert stands up for more awareness about pain, to strengthen the fight Because pain relief goes far beyond punctures and pills What is pain? Why does pain exist? How do we control it, both in classical medicine and through alternative methods? And how do we prevent it in the first place? What is the role of pain in a society dominated by heavy workloads, omnipresent social media and hectic lifestyles? To what extent do traumatic experiences, the environment and mind-set have an influence on (the experience of) pain? How can we deal with it as patients, society, policymakers, employers? Pain doctor Bart Morlion aims to offer an answer to these questions. He discusses the topic from a medical as well as a humane and social perspective; from the power of the brain in pain prevention to the art of acceptance.

Prof. dr. Bart Morlion is an internationally sought-after speaker and has given more than 450 lectures and seminars on pain management worldwide. He is the head of anaesthesiology and coordinator of the Leuven Centre for Algology at the University Hospitals of Leuven. He teaches pain management and pharmacology at the Catholic University of Leuven and several university colleges. Morlion is a member of the European Pain Federation EFIC’s executive board.
